Kevin Szafraniec breaks down the fantasy implications DJ Moore’s arrival will have in Buffalo following the Bills’ acquisition of the former Bears wideout.
When previewing 2026’s free agent wide receivers back in January, it was pretty clear that Buffalo needed to upgrade their receiving corps:
It’s time for the Bills to pony up and find a legitimate WR1 for Josh Allen. It is true that their current approach has gotten them to the playoffs, but it is hard to argue that they could take things to another level with a true star WR on the roster.
While Moore was not scheduled to become a free agent, the writing was on the wall that he was on his way out of Chicago. Later in the same article, I broke down why a split would be mutually beneficial for Moore and the Bears:
Is it just me, or are the vibes between DJ Moore and Caleb Williams totally weird? But winning can temporarily ease tensions, and the Bears are on a tear right now. Still, with Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Colston Loveland all emerging, it is not crazy to think that Chicago would test the trade market to see how much value Moore still holds. Additionally, the Bears currently have a projected effective cap deficit of $-18.2M for 2026, and trading Moore would save the team $16.5M, digging them almost entirely out of the hole.
Despite Moore’s worst PPR finish since his rookie year, his talent remains evident, and he does not turn 30 until April of 2027. Furthermore, seeing Moore finish 41st in FPOE may lead us to believe his decline in production may have had more to do with the number of mouths to feed in Chicago than with any fault of his own.
It did not take long after the NFL combine concluded for us to see some action on the trade market. In one of the first big splashes of the offseason, Chicago sent Moore and a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) to Buffalo for the 60th overall pick in this year’s draft.
Compensation agreed upon:
🏈Buffalo gets: DJ Moore and 2026 5th-round pick.
🏈Chicago gets: 2026 2nd-round pick.

Unsurprisingly, there has been no shortage of opinions regarding the move on social media. Did the Bills give up too much? Does Moore have anything left? Could this move serve as the catalyst for Allen and the Bills to finally reach the Super Bowl? Let’s dive in and see how the trade could affect the fantasy value of the players in the Buffalo passing game.
