Welcome to the NBA daily fantasy basketball plays of the day for January 12th. RotoViz will be providing a ton of NBA content this year. Tune in for the On The Daily podcasts throughout the week for more in-depth analysis on a game-by-game basis.
Chris Paul @ PHO – DK: $10,600 FD: $10,800
Chris Paul and the Rockets get a dream matchup with the Suns, and I’m going to be attacking it where I can. Paul is the first option I will try to gain some exposure to tonight, though his price point is starting to get rather steep. Paul is seeing ridiculous usage numbers with no James Harden on the court right now, and there’s no sign of that slowing down. If this game stays close, there is going to be a surplus of fantasy options available, and Paul is at the top of that list.
Rajon Rondo (DK: $5,900 FD: $5,300)/Jrue Holiday (DK: $7,000 FD: $7,000) vs POR
These plays are definitely going to be affected by the Anthony Davis injury news, so you are going to want to monitor that situation. If Davis is ruled out, you can attack either Rajon Rondo or Jrue Holiday wherever you want, but if he ends up playing that will take away a lot of usage from both of them. Holiday is likely the safer of the two in either situation, but Rondo has flashed some serious upside with Davis off the court as well. This game is very interesting for fantasy purposes, so let’s hope the Pelicans decide to be cautious with Davis.
Also Consider: John Wall (DK: $9,400 FD: $10,300) Jarrett Jack (DK: $4,600 FD: $4,700)
Victor Oladipo vs CLE – DK: $9,000 FD: $9,500
Victor Oladipo is in a great spot as he gets a matchup with the struggling Cavaliers at home. Oladipo is a high upside option each and every time he steps on the court, but that is almost twice as true with Cleveland in town. Through two games against the Cavs, he’s averaging 45 DKFP, and I don’t see that trend coming to an end tonight. If the Cavaliers get blown out again, it’s likely because of Oladipo, and if the game stays close, then we should get upwards of 35-40 minutes of game time for our top-tier fantasy option. This is a win-win in my book.
Devin Booker vs HOU – DK: $8,200 FD: $7,800
Devin Booker has been held in check over his last few games, but those were rather tough matchups with a little less pace than Houston tends to play with on regular basis. Booker has shown that this is his team, and he can erupt for a monster performance in games like this one. His price point will likely not get much lower than this from here on out, so this might be the perfect time to take advantage of Booker. This is definitely a game worth stacking, because if it stays close there are going to be plenty of cheap and expensive options to choose from on Friday.
Also Consider: Eric Gordon (DK: $7,400 FD: $8,100), E’Twaun Moore (DK: $4,900 FD: $4,900)
LeBron James @ IND – DK: $11,500 FD: $11,500
Something has to click soon, right? The Cavs have now lost back to back games by a lot of points, and LeBron James isn’t enjoying it one bit. Sooner or later he is going to go into “god-mode” and completely take over. Tonight’s matchup with the Pacers could be the perfect opportunity. If you think James and company are going to sit back and get beat again, Kevin Durant (DK: $10,200 FD: $10,600) is also a viable option, but I would like him a lot more if Steph Curry ends up being ruled out again tonight. Keep an eye out for updates.
T.J. Warren vs HOU – DK: $6,200 FD: $7,500
Even with Devin Booker back in the lineup, T.J. Warren has been very consistent lately, posting at least 30 DKFP in nine of his last 10 games. These are the types numbers we’re looking for when trying to pick a cash game option, but the four games over 40 DKFP in that time will work for GPPs as well. Warren is a solid pick for all formats in this high-scoring affair with Houston.
Also Consider: Jimmy Butler (DK: $$9,200 FD: $10,000), Allen Crabbe (DK: $5,100 FD: $5,600)
Domantas Sabonis vs CLE – DK: $6,400 FD $7,100
When Myles Turner is out, you have to move Domantas Sabonis toward the top of your list of options. Even with his last game being slightly underwhelming, he has a track record this season of being a fantasy lock with Turner out, and he should get right back on track this evening. The Cavaliers just got demolished by Toronto’s frontcourt last night. Look for Sabonis to do something similar on Friday.
Dragan Bender vs HOU – DK: $4,300 FD: $3,500
With Marquese Chriss already ruled out for tonight’s game, Dragan Bender will get the start and be another form of power forward chalk. This game between the Rockets and the Suns should be played at a fast pace, leading to plenty of fantasy points for our lineups. Bender is cheap enough to not have to post a monster stat line to be useful, but he did just show us what he could do against the Thunder when he posted 43.5 DKFP in 39 minutes.
Also Consider: Ersan Ilyasova (DK: $5,700 FD: $5,600), Taj Gibson (DK: $5,700 FD: $5,700)
DeMarcus Cousins vs POR – DK: $10,800 FD: $11,000
If Anthony Davis remains out tonight, DeMarcus Cousins could potentially be the top overall play on this slate. He is just a usage monster when Davis is off the court, and in a matchup that should stay competitive, you’re going to want some exposure to a guy with this kind of upside. The good news here is that even if Davis ends up playing, he has shown time and time again that he still offers plenty of upside. Even with that being said, you will want to pay close attention to the news this evening.
Also Consider: Karl-Anthony Towns (DK: $8,900 FD: $9,100), Enes Kanter (DK: $5,800 FD: $5,300)
