One of the biggest mistakes novice fantasy players make is reaching too early in a draft for a team defense. This is a mistake for several reasons, but most importantly because you can stream the position, picking up a defense with a great matchup each week.
In this series, I’ll be highlighting the best defensive matchups with an emphasis on defenses that should be available in most leagues.
BEST STREAMING DEFENSES IN WEEK 6
I won’t waste a lot of time harping on this, but the Bears are the number one D/ST with almost double the average fantasy points of any other team, yet they are still available in 13 percent of leagues. Please jump on them if you see them on your waiver wire.
New York Jets
The green gang remains the No. 2 defense in average fantasy points per week, and they face the Colts in Week 6. The Colts have a Vegas implied total of only 21.5 points, and last week they gave up two interceptions and a fumble lost to the Patriots. If you have the Jets I would hold them for the next few weeks and save your waiver priority.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers are not an exciting defense, but averaging 8 fantasy points per week they are just slightly behind the Rams for 4th place. This week they host the 49ers, who only scored 18 points against the Cardinals while turning the ball over five times.
The Dolphins have 7.6 fantasy points per game this year, which ties them with the Jaguars and Steelers, yet the Fins are only owned in 10 percent of leagues. The team that held Andy Dalton and A.J. Green to only 15 points should be able to do the same against a Bears offense that has struggled against everyone except Tampa Bay, in what promises to be a low-scoring matchup.
