Just for Fun – Blaine Gabbert College Comparables

6235442055_c10691ffce_b

The way that I’ve been doing the QB comparables has been to find the closest guys on box score passing stats, and then delete the names that aren’t in the same general area of the draft.  So if I’m looking at a guy that scouts expect to be a 1st round pick, I whittle  my comp list down by deleting non-1st round picks.  That adds an additional level of similarity to the comps.  I wanted to do the same exercise to see what Blaine Gabbert would have looked like as a prospect, except that there was a problem.  None of the comparable players were also 1st round picks!!!!  (Unless we count guys from the same draft – so basically, for some reason in 2011 teams decided to load up on QBs that didn’t look like the 1st round picks that had come before them).  You can draw whatever conclusion you want to from that information.

If you can’t tell, I was highly amused by this exercise and couldn’t resist sharing.  So just for fun, your Blaine Gabbert comparables.
