Chris Wesseling of NFL.com writes:
According to numbers compiled by NFL.com, Brady posted a 65.7 completion percentage, 23-3 TD:INT ratio and 106.6 passer rating at 7.9 yards per attempt on snaps with Gronkowski on the field. Those numbers plummeted to 58.9 completion percentage, 11:5 TD:INT ratio, 87.1 passer rating and 7.1 yards per attempt on snaps without Gronkowski.
Wesseling also writes in the article that Tom Brady minus Gronkowski was basically Andy Dalton. That struck me as a very interesting idea.
Until we hear that Gronk is healthy, Brady’s weapons are probably even more questionable this year than they were last year. On the other hand, Dalton got upgrades. Dalton will have a new tight end (a red zone efficient position) in Tyler Eifert as well as a new pass catching back in Gio Bernard. The Bengals offense is also now pretty stacked with young pass catchers.
Another interesting exercise is to look at Andy Dalton’s numbers next to the numbers of some other QBs at age 25.
