The Composite Re-Draft RB Rankings

Perhaps the central theme that has been and will be playing out at the RB position is the slow disappearance of the workhorse RBs that came up between 2007 and 2009. While the 2008 draft class was really the richest in terms of RB talent, it was sandwiched on either end by draft classes that have given us some multi-year fantasy studs.

But as Axl Rose famously sang, nothing lasts forever even cold November Rain1.

Here’s a graph which shows the career direction of a number of the backs that came into the league from 2007 to 2009.

It’s worth thinking about whether some of the more disappointing names on the list might act as canaries in the mine to get us away from the names on the list that are still performing. At this point that’s really just a thought that I’m having and that I plan to look into more over the summer. If you’re worried about a player dropping off a cliff then the first thing you would think about would be an injury that might act as a catalyst. You might also be worried about the player’s team bringing in a competent backup. I also wonder whether having to grind for all of their yards might affect some players. For instance, if you can get relatively easy yards in the passing game and avoid getting gang tackled every play, does that make a player more likely to have longevity.

These are mostly just tentative thoughts but I do think that they’re important ones considering that several of the top 5 RBs in re-draft leagues are players that have seen their contemporaries fall by the wayside.

Without further ado I give your our June re-draft rankings for RBs. This list will be updated at least one time before August.

The rankers are: FD = Fantasy Douche, DM = Davis Mattek, MF = Matthew Freedman, SS = Shawn Siegele, SS2 = Scott Smith,JK = Jim Kloet, BF = Bryan Fontaine, AM = Aaron Messing, JB = Justin Bailey,  CR = the Composite Ranking

*Note that like most coverage on RotoViz, these rankings are implicitly PPR as that is the format that the writers play and also is the most common in online money contests.
