Giana Pacinelli provides QB streaming options, 2-QB plays, and overall QB rankings for Week 15 of the 2019 fantasy football season.
Week 15 is here. If you’re still reading this, congrats on being in the playoffs. If you’ve reached this point, chances are you have a comfortable situation at the quarterback position, or you’ve been reading my articles and streaming the right signal caller. So let’s dive right into the semi-final week and win, after a quick recap on how we got here.
In Week 14, eight teams scored 35-plus points. If you happened to start one of those quarterbacks this week, you should be pleased with yourself (looking at you, Drew Brees owners).
Some highlights include:
- Patrick Mahomes becoming the first quarterback under 25 years old to win a regular-season game in New England since 2000
- Drew Lock’s QBR of 98.7 being the fourth-best of any quarterback this season (and the top three all belonging to Lamar Jackson)
- Drew Brees putting up six touchdowns, marking the 11th time in his career with at least five touchdown passes – the most such games in NFL history. Unfortunately for the Saints, Jimmy Garoppolo’s 349 yards and four touchdowns (and a game-winning field goal) brought the 49ers out on top against them.
My picks from last week should’ve helped you get to the next round. Ryan Tannehill had a 391-3-1 stat line against the Texans and Jacoby Brissett put up 251 passing yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion in a close loss to Tampa Bay. The magic was muted a bit when Ryan Fitzpatrick was held scoreless, but his 245 yards in the air and 65 yards on the ground helped him sustain a decent fantasy outing.
Week 14’s top-five fantasy quarterbacks include Jameis Winston (QB2) and Mitchell Trubisky (QB3). With the playoffs underway, you would be doing yourself a disservice to stick with a quarterback simply because you drafted him. All the same, I don’t expect you to start a waiver-wire quarterback at this stage of the game unless you absolutely need to.
With that said, my quarterback picks this week are more start/sit advice based on my QB rankings, matchups and those looking for a Hail Mary in the rough.
Note: Ryan Tannehill will no longer be in this streaming article because he has proven himself worthy of an every-week start. If he is available and you need him, start him.

2-QB Must Starts
Jimmy Garoppolo vs ATL – Coming off the game of the year, don’t expect Garoppolo to slow down against a Falcons defense that has given up the third-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. In fact, it seems like Garoppolo is peaking at the right time with a 124.4 passer rating over his past four games.
Jameis Winston @ DET – Wildly unnoticed, Winston is on pace for 5,065 passing yards this season – the sixth-highest mark in NFL history. While his interceptions (23 on the season) have tarnished his reputation in the league, they haven’t done much to hurt his fantasy production. Winston currently holds the No. 2 spot for passing attempts, passing yards and passing touchdowns this season.
Hail Mary Streamer – Drew Lock at KC
Ownership (Yahoo): 2%
Ownership (ESPN): 1.2%
It’s playoff season, meaning I would not trust most widely available quarterbacks. But Drew Lock has quietly been making a name for himself within a Broncos organization that has struggled to fill the gap Peyton Manning left behind when he retired three long years ago. In his first two starts, Lock has had consecutive multi-touchdown games (five total) and just put up 309 yards in the air against the Texans. He has also secured two wins in his first two starts.
The Chiefs defense has looked much better in the second half of the season – no quarterback has scored more than 20 points since Week 10. However, quarterbacks are still averaging 17.23 fantasy points in the last five weeks. And with the Chiefs offense still a powerhouse even without a running game (did anyone miss their win against the Pats?), Lock will have to use his arm if he wants a chance at a third consecutive win.
It’s a small sample size, but Lock’s proven to have a high ceiling against substantial defenses. And he does have decent matchups over the next two weeks at Kansas City and against Detroit. It’s a sneaky play, but owners in deep leagues with slim pickings could secure a lock (pun intended) in a must-win week.
Matchup of the Week – Baker Mayfield vs ARI
Ownership (Yahoo): 73%
Ownership (ESPN): 57%
Baker Mayfield has failed to post 200 passing yards in his last two games. But this week, he faces the Arizona Cardinals who have given up 350-plus passing yards to both Winston and Jared Goff and just allowed Devlin Hodges to have a 117.5 passer rating.
You may have your qualms about Mayfield, but the matchup is too good for desperate fantasy owners to pass up. The Cardinals haven’t just given up the most fantasy points to the quarterback position, they are on pace to give up 5,000 passing yards on the season – the second-most yards allowed of all time. Mayfield may have disappointed fantasy owners all season long, but he is good enough to come through in the eleventh hour against this defense.
