Notes on Week 14 WRs and a Look Ahead to 2022 ADP

Justin Jefferson had taken a brief lead in the battle for overall dynasty WR1 after Ja’Marr Chase’s multi-week dip in efficiency. But Chase reminded us why he was worth the early draft pick the Bengals spent on him, scoring a pair of touchdowns on his eight targets in Week 14. Jefferson also reminded us why he still might be the dynasty WR1, garnering 15 targets, one of which was a touchdown of his own. And it should have been more if not for Kirk Cousins’ inaccuracy. But of course that’s part of Jefferson’s dynasty profile — at least for now.

The former college teammates are both top seven in total PPR points, with Jefferson coming in at No. 2. Only Cooper Kupp and Mike Evans have more receiving TDs than Chase this season. Adam Thielen is the only other player with more TDs than Jefferson (which may speak to some untapped upside for Jefferson in this offense).

The most curious aspect of Chase’s rookie season hasn’t been the precipitous drop in efficiency (which was always something we expected, even if we didn’t foresee how precipitous it would be). Rather, it’s that he’s averaging only 7.5 targets per game in an offense we expected to be quite a bit more potent.

Compare this to Jefferson, who’s averaging nearly 10 targets per game — with double-digit targets in four of his last five — and you see why Jefferson retains the advantage for dynasty gamers.
