Kevin Szafraniec highlights 12 players who represent landmines for redraft rosters at almost any cost, plus 13 other players who aren’t far behind them.
It always feels better to be an optimist than a pessimist. But sometimes there is no helping a bad situation. Unfortunately, this can apply to fantasy football, or more specifically, fantasy football ADP. The rise of best ball has allowed us to draft hundreds, if not thousands, of teams every year without the repercussions of having to deal with waivers or setting weekly lineups. With such a wide array of teams, gaining at least some exposure to almost the entire player pool generally happens naturally over the course of the offseason.
However, our redraft portfolios generally have to be more streamlined due to the time constraints we face on a weekly basis. This group generally consists of our most cherished home leagues, where we want to perform our best in order to hold bragging rights for the next calendar year. Our redraft portfolio may also include some of our highest fantasy investments of the year, including contests like the FFPC’s Main Event and Big Gorilla, which combine entry fees in the hundreds or thousands with smaller fields than large-scale best ball tournaments to give fantasy managers a chance at a $1 million grand prize.
For these reasons, there should be a heightened sense to target “your guys” in redraft leagues and, perhaps even more importantly, to weed out the players who appear poised to become fantasy landmines during the upcoming season. True, at some point in every draft, many sliding players become interesting. But there are just some players whose names are hard to click no matter what stage of the draft you are in.
For this exercise, I will be using ADP data from the FFPC’s Main Event and Big Gorilla. Both contests feature PPR scoring with a premium of 1.5 PPR for tight ends, explaining the elevated TE ADPs compared to most formats. Additionally, these contests feature 20 rounds with starting lineups consisting of: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 2 Flex, 1 K, and 1 D. (If one of your guys happens to be on my Do Not Draft list, you can take solace in the fact that this is only my personal list of guys I’m avoiding. While I think there are good reasons to avoid all the players below, I’ve been wrong before. Use the RotoViz tools and data to come up with your own Do Not Draft list that fits your drafting style.)
The FFPC offers fantasy managers two separate chances to bring home a $1 million grand prize in the Main Event and Big Gorilla! New users can save $25 off their first team with the code 25ROTOVIZ or by following this link!
