Consistent success in dynasty requires persistent replenishment of value. In this series, Jesse Cohen will spotlight unique opportunities and trade ideas for RV-influenced dynasty managers aiming to keep their Permanent Championship Windows open.
Shallow-Water Physics: The Zero-RB Tsunami is Coming
Tsunamis behave as long waves. As the wave enters shallower water on the continental shelf, strong horizontal currents create a leading trough that pulls the shoreline back — the seabed is exposed, and there’s an eerie calm. Then comes the wave’s crest.
That’s what we saw in Week 1 for many of our favorite Zero-RB candidates. Not the smashing crest of the wave, but signs the tsunami is coming.
Your leaguemates see the same signs, but many will be standing on the beach taking selfies. Let’s get to higher ground.
Week 1 Recap
It was a pretty good first week for the Dynasty Dealbook.
Recommendation: Don’t sell low on Jacory Croskey-Merritt.
Result: Pants all the way off. (This call was looking better before Thursday night, of course, but it’s hard to see the Commanders not giving him more touches going forward to go with the increased snap count — especially with Zero-RB legend Austin Ekeler going down with an apparent Achilles injury.)
Recommendation: Consider swapping Josh Downs for Keon Coleman.
Result: Few players lost and gained as much dynasty value as Downs and Coleman respectively in Week 1. (Mat Irby shares some fun Coleman stats in this week’s Keon Coleman Did What? RotoViz Reacts to Week 1.)
Recommendation: Consider balancing your portfolio with a share or two of Kaleb Johnson.
Result: Whoops. As predicted, Johnson is even cheaper this week.
The Seabed is Exposed for these Zero-RB Candidates
Here’s what happened in Week 1, and how it aligns with the attributes Shawn highlighted that made these players such exciting Zero-RB candidates in the first place.
