Kevin Szafraniec details the rookie season of one wide receiver who underperformed expectations in 2025 but still provided enough positive signal for fantasy managers to believe a rebound could be on its way in 2026.
When dealing with fantasy production, the earlier it comes, the better. Unfortunately, not every NFL star sets the league ablaze with scorching production starting on Day 1. The further a player gets into their career without a breakout, the less likely one is to occur. However, that is not to say we don’t see rare instances of superstars emerging later in their careers and continuing to produce for the next decade.
One such example is Davante Adams, who was labeled a bust in the first two years of his career after the Packers selected him 53rd overall in 2014.

But then things turned around in a hurry for Adams, starting with a WR9 finish in 2016. The superstar wideout then averaged a staggering 18.7 PPR/GM over the next decade.

While we have to believe that Adams’ career represents the 99th-percentile outcome for a player who underperformed so dramatically early on, it does provide evidence that turnarounds are always possible. And Adams is hardly the only player to reverse their fortunes after a disappointing start to their careers.
This is good news for one rookie wide receiver who came into 2025 with high hopes, only to come up short by most accounts. However, some strong elements in his analytical profile suggest he could be headed for better days in 2026, potentially putting him ahead of the steep trajectory of Adams’ career arc.
