Kevin Szafraniec outlines what the Vikings’ signing of Kyler Murray means for the fantasy value of the mercurial quarterback and Minnesota’s receiving weapons.
Following the unmitigated disaster that was the J.J. McCarthy experience, it was a given that the Vikings would be upgrading their quarterback room this offseason.

After head coach Kevin O’Connell had successfully navigated numerous storms at the QB position during his time in Minnesota, McCarthy’s failure marked the first significant blemish on his otherwise impeccable reputation. And that’s not to say the 2025 season was awful after Minnesota finished above .500 with a 9-8 record. Still, the season was undeniably a disappointment for a team that entered the year with Super Bowl aspirations.
In an attempt to address their primary weakness, Minnesota went out and signed the recently released Kyler Murray to a one-year, $1.3M prove-it deal. Despite the well-documented hurdles that Murray’s stature presents, the Vikings’ new QB has averaged 22.0 fantasy points per game across his career. On the surface, it would appear that the pairing of a formerly elite QB with one of the brightest offensive minds in the league should benefit all parties involved. While Murray’s fit in Minnesota is promising, will his presence be enough to rejuvenate the slumping fantasy value of the Vikings’ passing game?
