Wan’Dale Robinson Provides Cam Ward With a Security Blanket for the Next Step in His NFL Evolution

Kevin Szafraniec breaks down whether Wan’Dale Robinson is up to the task of becoming Cam Ward’s WR1 after being signed by the Titans in free agency.

It is difficult to imagine Cam Ward’s rookie year playing out much worse than it did. As expected, he had no shortage of opportunities to show off his arm talent while perpetually playing from behind with Tennessee’s patchwork offense. Unfortunately, being surrounded by one of the worst supporting casts in the league did not lead to the same number of highlight-reel throws Ward was accustomed to making during his senior season at Miami.

Ward ranked dead last in fantasy points over expectation (FPOE) among quarterbacks.

But these things are bound to happen when your No. 1 overall pick is relying on two Day 3 rookies to be his primary targets in the passing game.

Luckily, the Titans find themselves flush with cap space this offseason. And the team wasted little time addressing one of their chief weaknesses, signing Wan’Dale Robinson to a four-year, $70 million contract (per Spotrac) on the opening day of free agency. Although $17.5M per year is nothing to scoff at, it is not the type of money that entitles Robinson to the WR1 spot on the Tennessee depth chart. With that in mind, how large a role should we be expecting for Robinson in Nashville in 2026, and what are the chances that another top-flight receiver gets dropped on top of him this offseason?
