We’ve already explored the top running back and tight end athletes in the 2026 rookie class. In both groups we found players setting new records and forcing us to rethink both our models and our priors.
But Freak Scores were designed first and foremost to find wide receiver profiles with an advantage in the red zone and around the goal line. The theory has always been that size (height and weight) and speed matter most when you need to beat your defender by just a few inches on a corner fade route in the end zone. The extra length, muscle, and explosiveness give just enough of an edge that small differences in athletic ability can lead to big differences in productivity.
With that said, do any of the WRs in the 2026 class look like they will be able to provide their teams just such an edge?

2026 Wide Receiver Freak Scores
Of the 33 WRs to run at the combine, all but two turned in a sub-4.6 40-yard dash. Eighteen different receivers ran the combine’s premier event in less than 4.45 seconds. This gives us eight players with a Freak Score above 70 (90th percentile). In other words, eight of the 33 receivers — nearly 25% — who participated in the 40-yard dash at the 2026 combine are in the top 10% of all-time NFL WRs in terms of the combination of size and speed. I’m not going to touch on all the top athletes below, but will highlight a few of the more athletic players expected to earn significant draft capital, or who have interesting profiles for other reasons.
