It’s always a lot of fun to participate in a startup dynasty draft with a partner, and it’s even better when that draft is an FFPC Pros versus Joes event. Owners in this league are engaged. As I finish up this look at the early rounds, we’re sitting at 6.04 with 24 trades already in the books.

What can we learn from the best owners in the business? Today, I’ll use the RotoViz tools to examine trends and tactics from the early rounds.

Key Takeaways from the FFPC Pros vs. Joes Superflex Dynasty Draft #166

The stud tight ends went earlier than ADP . . . as they should.

In the Superflex format, quarterbacks take one of the flex positions, leaving fewer starting spots for the remaining players. Your TE1 becomes one of six starters at RB/WR/TE, instead of one of seven in the normal format. With the TE Premium scoring, TEs already play a big role in FFPC leagues, and that only increases here. In preparing for the draft, ADP for the star TEs was surprising.

In our draft, Travis Kelce (1.08), George Kittle (1.10), and Mark Andrews (3.03) all went well above ADP. This pushed the Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson tier at QB into the second round, but it also moved Kelce and Kittle above the second tier of RBs (Joe Mixon, Miles Sanders, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Josh Jacobs).

As Kelce turns 31 during the season, his ADP is easier to understand than Kittle’s, although you can still make an argument for the K.C. star. The No. 7 overall pick in classic redraft posted last year’s highest first-round win rate outside of Christian McCaffrey. Those best-ball results help us understand his firepower in the FFPC format.

Within that context, a mid-career superstar like Kittle and a rising youngster like Andrews are clear values, and they were drafted like it in our startup.
