Going Contrarian Against the Contrarians: Searching for Value in a Franchise League Football Auction With the RotoViz Community

Kevin Szafraniec details the strategies he attempted to employ in a RotoViz Listener League auction on Franchise League Football.

Even before writing for RotoViz, I had taken part in multiple listener leagues over the years. Given that we all shared a similar mindset, these drafts were always some of the wildest of the season. In many instances, ADP was thrown out the window, seeing huge reaches for RotoViz favorites and monumental falls for the site’s fades.

Over the years, I had found some success in these leagues by scooping up these falling ADP values once they became too difficult to ignore. However, this year we incorporated a new wrinkle by adding the blind bidding of a Franchise League Football auction into the equation.

While I generally look to implement a “stars and scrubs” approach in auctions, the definition of each archetype of player was bound to stray from the norm in a league consisting entirely of the RotoViz community. How would this approach work out for me? You’re about to find out!
