The Lowdown: Roddy White Hurting and Buck Allen Moving Up The Chart

Roddy White From ESPN.com: Coach Dan Quinn acknowledged both rookie Justin Hardy and Falcons newcomer Nick Williams as players who could see more extensive work. Hardy, the team’s fourth-round draft pick out of East Carolina, is sure to be on the 53-man roster. Williams, formerly with the Washington Redskins, appeared to be a longshot until he started flashing throughout training camp and in the first two preseason games. “It totally — when a guy of Roddy’s caliber is not out there, yeah, you’re bummed that you’re not able to have him there — but these matchups that you love to

The Lowdown: Jordy Nelson, Martavis Bryant, and Charles Johnson

Jordy Nelson The initial diagnosis on #Packers WR Jordy Nelson is a torn ACL, source said. Horrible news. Awaiting MRI results to confirm. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 23, 2015 Jordy Nelson exited Sundays preseason game early and reports are saying that he’s got a torn ACL, but the Packers are waiting to give an official word until they’ve returned to Green Bay. This sent Twitter into an uproar preaching about Davante Adams and Davis Mattek’s darling, Jeff Janis. When Nelson left the game, it was Janis who entered the game to replace him. Janis finished the game with a

The Lowdown: Matt Jones, Robert Griffin III, and Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor From Syracuse.com: Cleveland — Rex Ryan had heard enough quarterback questions. He’s been answering them for weeks in Buffalo and did the same for years in New York. So after the Buffalo Bills‘ 11-10 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns, Ryan confirmed what he’s been hinting at: He won’t announce a starting quarterback until the team takes the field to play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. “Yeah, I just decided that,” Ryan said with a grin. “It’s a beautiful call by me.” “Remember, I’m not going to make that decision until we play Indy,” Ryan said. “Competitive

The Lowdown: Kelvin Benjamin, LeSean McCoy, and Calvin Johnson

If the injury is serious, this could potentially lower the upside of Cam Newton. The Panthers WR corp would be in shambles in the absence of Benjamin. The 6 foot 5 inch, 245 pound behemoth of a receiver caught 73 passes for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns in his rookie season. The next man up would be rookie Devin Funchess, who

The Lowdown: Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, and Andre Ellington

Atlanta Running Backs From Pro Football Talk: Hamstring injuries left the Falcons without three of their running backs in recent days, leading the team to sign Evan Royster in order to have enough healthy bodies to get them through practice. They may not need Royster to fill that role for too much longer, however. Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman both suited up for Monday’s practice and multiple reports from Falcons practice had them taking part in individual drills while sitting out the team portions of the workout. After a near two-week hiatus, the two Atlanta running backs are finally back

The Lowdown: Nelson Agholor, Donte Moncrief and Tyrod Taylor

Nelson Agholor Eagles rookie Nelson Agholor looked sharp on Sunday after hauling three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown against the Colts. Agholor has been getting first team reps in training, but he didn’t get the start preseason opener. However, he still got some reps with the ones. With the departure of Jeremy Maclin that’s going to leave roughly 140 targets that need to find a home. Riley Cooper is awful and was on of the least efficient WRs on the team in 2014. Some are pegging this year as the breakout year for Zac Ertz and I think

The Lowdown: Niles Paul, Ameer Abdullah, and Matt Jones

Ameer Abdullah Lions rookie running back Ameer Abdullah had himself quite the preseason game on Thursday night against the Jets. I imagine Abdullah started trending on Twitter right after he broke off this 45 yard run upfield. For a period of time before the draft it looked as if this backfield belonged to Joique Bell; that’s far from the case anymore. Bell is still nursing knee and Achilles injuries and Abdullah keeps gaining more momentum. Bell and Abdullah’s ADP essentially flip-flopped back in mid June. Abdullah finished yesterday’s game with seven carries for 67 yards. Zach Zenner also finished the game with

The Lowdown: Brandon Bolden, Kendall Wright, and Dorial Green-Beckham

Brandon Bolden From the Boston Harold: Strictly judging by appearances, veteran Brandon Bolden is currently the leader in the clubhouse for Shane Vereen’s third down back role. He’s moved ahead of second-year back James White and everyone else. Bolden has been the main man for Tom Brady as the pass catching/blocking back during the past three practices. He was the primary guy during Friday’s session. But one practice doesn’t mean much. It could be a rotation type deal. But then, he was the lead again Saturday. So we’ve started a trend. Three days? Can’t be a coincidence. We’re onto something.

The Lowdown: Ameer Abdullah & Niles Paul the New No. 1?

Niles Paul Jay Gruden says Niles Paul is a more complete tight end than Jordan Reed, and that’s why he is now the starting TE. — Mike Jones (@MikeJonesWaPo) August 10, 2015 In his limited action last season, Niles Paul was the second most efficient target for the Redskins in 2014. On the flip side of things, Jordan Reed was the least efficient target. Reed has had problems staying healthy for the majority of his career. The Redskins also gave Paul a three-year, $6 million deal in March. I don’t think you’d do that with somebody you don’t plan on

The Lowdown: Ronnie Hillman Practicing Behind CJ Anderson & MyCole Pruitt Impresses on Thursday

Ronnie Hillman From 9 News Denver: “A development from the past three or four days is what’s happened at his top backup spot. Ronnie Hillman has taken some 1B reps ahead of Montee Ball. (Tailback is the one position where the backup works in with the first-team offense. Thus, the 1B distinction).” Ronnie Hillman was a third-round pick in the 2012 draft, but has never had a solidified role in this offense. In 31 career games, Hillman has averaged 3.99 YPC and he’s got some pass catching ability with 43 receptions in his limited playing time. Hillman has been more efficient
