Dynasty Impact Week 1: Maddening Manning, Moncrief Mania, and More(iota)!

Someday, we might look back on 2015’s Week 1 as the debut of a legendary quarterback. Sadly, it may also mark the beginning of the end for one of the all-time greats. I’m happy to report that Week 1 had numerous dynasty implications, and there’s already been a dramatic shakeup in my rookie rankings. Brace yourselves and join me in considering the Dynasty Impact of last week’s matchups! Peyton Manning Trending Steeply Downward; Denver Receivers to Follow Suit? I thought it was an overreaction when people started calling Peyton Manning “finished” just because he fell down a few times during…...

Dynasty Impact: Preseason 2015 and Rookie Rankings

BRACE FOR IMPACT Greetings and welcome to what will certainly become the most popular recurring column on RotoViz!1 Throughout the season, I will analyze the “Dynasty Impact” of the previous week; performance, injury, trades, arrests, etc. But wait, there’s more! In this special preseason edition of Dynasty Impact, I will unveil my positional dynasty rookie rankings, which I will keep updated throughout the season. Even though dynasty owners focus on the long con, the 2015 Preseason was a perfect example of how volatile dynasty player valuation can be, even on a week-to-week basis. EVERYBODY HURTS We probably say this every…...

It’s (Finally) Time to Sell High on Marshawn Lynch

Foreword: I’m nervous about this one. All Marshawn Lynch does is prove his detractors wrong. I admit that I’m scared, but the time has come for someone to stick their neck out and say it: It’s time to sell Beast Mode. The first article I ever read on RotoViz told me not to draft Marshawn Lynch. It was during the offseason following a 2012 campaign that saw Lynch finish as a top-12 PPR RB for the second-straight year. This was a contrarian piece, for sure, but data-driven contrarian viewpoints are the rock upon which RotoViz has built its church. Later that…...

2 Older Wide Receivers You’re Better Off Trading

I love the RotoViz Trade Calculator.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s the best approximation of dynasty value you’ll find anywhere. Charles Kleinheksel recently wrote a great piece utilizing the Calculator, suggesting that it might be time to move away from a certain 30-year-old RB with over 2,000 career carries. I definitely agree with him. Adrian Peterson still has real trade value despite his age and mileage. Using the Calculator, I came up with a list of players that you should consider replacing. These players are no longer increasing in value, but still command the price tag commensurate…...

Meet Dynasty Dynamo Josh Robinson, Bowling Ball Overlord of the Planet “Opportunity”

We’ve been doing this for years. You know the drill by now: Frank Gore is old. He’s equally amazing and ancient. He’s a pleaser, but he’s also a geezer.1 The age cliff is fast-approaching, and Gore’s fall will be sudden and steep. Imagine Gore as Wile E. Coyote, running off the cliff, ball tucked under one arm, legs still churning. He pauses briefly mid-air, just before looking at the viewer, holding up a wooden sign reading, “That’s all folks!” and disappearing off the bottom of the screen. This is going to happen. The only question is when the inevitable occurs, will…...

Brandin Cooks Should be a Top-12 Dynasty Wide Receiver

Brandin Cooks sure seems like a number one dynasty wide receiver. He’s phenomenally young, impossibly athletic, and he owns one of the most productive college seasons of all time. By some accounts, he was perhaps the best small WR prospect ever. He has an elite quarterback in Drew Brees, and his only real competition for targets…is now playing for the Seahawks.  So why is he being selected as just WR16 in dynasty startups? Drafters must like Cooks in order to select him before Allen Robinson, Martavis Bryant, and Jordan Matthews. The only thing keeping Cooks out of the WR1 conversation is the…...
