If you missed my first article introducing the “Joe 2 Pro” series, you can read it here. It gives a brief overview on how to attack daily fantasy football without feeling like you’re drowning. What I am trying to do with the Joe 2 Pro series is bring up topics regarding daily fantasy football that I wish I knew about when I had first started playing. There’s definitely a learning curve when you go from seasonal leagues to daily fantasy sports.
The Buy Low Machine
The Buy Low Machine is a great tool when trying to search for favorable match ups for your daily fantasy football teams. One of the things I like to do each week is take the Buy Low Machine and compare it with the salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel.
The above Heatmap is looking at quarterback strength of schedule for Week 9. Starting at the top, it lists the most favorable fantasy matchup for for each QB. While you’d want to get matchup into consideration, you’d also want to pay attention to who the QB is (obviously), but you wouldn’t want to necessarily want to play a bad QB in a good matchup, especially for cash games. A bad player in a good matchup is still a bad player. The matchup that stands out to me the most is Colin Kaepernick against the St. Louis Rams. He has the fifth most favorable schedule, is the tenth most expensive QB on DraftKings at $7,000 and the eleventh most expensive QB on FanDuel at $7,800. I’d highly recommend utilizing this tool to search out the other positions and find certain players and salaries that you can try and exploit from week to week.
Week 9 Cash Game Thought Process
Kaepernick seems to be the QB that I am seeking exposure to the most this week for my daily fantasy football teams because of his reasonable salary and plus matchup. In Kaepernick’s last matchup against the Rams he threw for 343 yards and three TDs, while rushing for 37 yards. The Rams also give up the third most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs.
Marshawn Lynch has been under-performing as of late, but according to the buy low machine, he’s got the second most favorable matchup against the Raiders this week. He’s $6,100 on DraftKings and $8,200 on FanDuel. Andre Ellington, LeSean McCoy and Le’Veon Bell are also RBs I want some exposure to because of their high RB market share on their team.
With the re-injury to Jordan Cameron, and the performances in the last two weeks, I might be willing to jump back on the Andrew Hawkins train again after deciding to jump ship on him previously. He offers some salary relief if you need it while constructing your rosters. He also has the best matchup according to the buy low machine.
While Odell Beckham had the two receiving TDs for the Giants in their last game, Rueben Randle is the guy I am looking for in that offense this week. It may be tough to fit some of the higher priced WRs in your lineups, especially on DraftKings where they seemed to have over-corrected for their loose salaries last week. DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson are WRs I am also targeting because of the Eagles’ putrid secondary and how offenses are able to run a higher volume of plays against them.
On DraftKings tight end is the easiest decision for me. It’s Julius Thomas. He’s got the fourth best matchup, he’s $2,000 cheaper than Gronk and he’s always a threat to score multiple TDs. On FanDuel, I’m likely to look the way of Jordan Reed, Larry Donnell, or Zach Ertz. Unless you’re able to fit Rob Gronkowski in your lineup, I’m probably going with one of the cheaper options previously listed.
Good luck to everybody in Week 9!
DraftKings is rolling back their Millionaire Maker again this week. I interviewed DraftKings professional Jonathan Bales about how to attack this tournament. I also interviewed 2011 FFFC champion, Chris Prince about how he approaches large field tournaments like the Millionaire Maker.
