Streaming Defenses: Week 11

One of the biggest mistakes novice fantasy players make is reaching too early in a draft for a team defense. This is a mistake for several reasons, but most importantly because you can stream the position, picking up a defense with a great matchup each week.

In this series, I’ll be highlighting the best defensive matchups with an emphasis on defenses that should be available in most leagues.

Depending on where you are in your league you’ll need to decide if you need to maximize scoring over the next three weeks to make your playoffs, or if you are ready to start making your playoff run. Also some leagues have a waiver wire deadline. Luckily a lot of teams are clear for the rest of the season.

Top Tier

The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans are making end-of-season playoff runs and have the easiest rest-of-season schedule for defenses. They are each available in about 23 percent of ESPN leagues so double check your league.

The Buffalo Bills are on a bye this week, but return to a great final stretch, so they are likely worth stashing coming off a 13-point win against the Jets, whom Buffalo faces again Week 14.

Second Tier

Washington held the potent Tampa Bay offense to only three points last week, forcing four turnovers in the process. I’m a little worried about the matchup with Houston this week, but Washington has a good enough schedule the rest of the season that I wouldn’t mind ending the year with them as my defense. They are only 64 percent owned.

The Tennessee Titans also just held the New England Patriots to only 10 points, and have a great end-of-season schedule. The Titans are only 27 percent owned and they will be a hot add this week. The Titans could also be a hold for the rest of the season.
