Pau Gasol and Your Daily Hoops Cheatcodes* (4-2-13)

pau-gasol

This is going to be a post for all you daily fantasy basketball junkies. Daily hoops can be extremely exhausting due to the massive day-to-day swings in player usage and match ups so this will serve as a great place to start when constructing your lineup.

These lineups are specific to DraftStreet, Draft Day, and FanDuel, thus it’s important to note that the scoring and position requirements at these sites are slightly different. One player might offer more value at one site, but not another.

I’ve used our extremely useful apps (for DraftStreet go here, Draft Day here, and FanDuel here) as well as some personal strategy to create a lineup for each site. I’ll be putting up two lineups each day on a rotating basis (DS/DD on Monday, DD/FD on Tuesday, FD/DS on Wednesday, and so on). I encourage you to utilize the apps I linked to above as they are some of the most valuable tools available in the daily fantasy community.

Finally, you should not just blindly follow these lineups. Very often guys are ruled out as it gets closer to tip-off and player usage becomes clearer. There are tons of places to check for pregame updates, but I’ve found Rotoworld and Twitter searches work best for me.

Game Notes:

– There are only three games tonight and we have a few big unanswered questions. As I am writing this, we don’t yet know if the Heat will play LeBron or Wade and Tyson Chandler is looking like a game-time decision for the Knicks. If any of those guys end up sitting, it frees up minutes for guys like Norris Cole, Ray Allen, and Kenyon Martin.

– Regardless though of what Spoelstra ends up doing with his stars, I’m probably going to end up playing Chris Bosh at one of my center spots on DraftStreet. If James and Wade are out, Bosh obviously gets a bump, but even if they both play there are so few healthy options at the five tonight that Bosh is almost the default play.

– The RotoViz app is completely on fire. Just a crazy run. The last five players who have come in as the best values have averaged over 35 fantasy points for less than $14k on DraftStreet, less than $12.5K on DraftDay and less than $7.5k on FanDuel. Tonight Pau Gasol gets the nod from the algorithm and frankly, I’m going to trust the system.

– Mavs Head Coach Rick Carlisle hinted that the team would lean a little harder on Dirk Nowitzki for the remainder of the season, saying “he is a superstar, and superstars have more of that burden on their shoulders than the other guys.” Dirk is a great candidate for 35+ fantasy points against the Lakers in a battle for the 8th seed out west.

– From that same game, I’m going to end up playing Mike James, Antawn Jamison, and Dwight Howard as well. James has cooled off after posting five-straight games of at least 20 fantasy points, but the Lakers simply can’t defend the point guard position. Jamison is seeing extended minutes thanks to an old and injured Los Angeles team. If he can hit the 20-fantasy point mark, Jamison will be well worth the $8.5k. For Howard, Dallas is a solid matchup and there are just so few options at center that he is too good to pass on.

– To round out my teams I’m going to be looking at the Chicago Bulls. As long as Noah is out, Taj Gibson will get big minutes. Likewise for Nate Robinson and Jimmy Butler if Marco Belinelli is out.

– Bradley Beal scored 24 points including six 3-pointers on Sunday, reassuring daily gamers that he is once again playable. I’d avoid him on sites where you get dinged half a point for missed field goals, but on DraftDay, I have Beal in my lineup.

– Finally, Carmelo Anthony always plays the Heat well and reading the tea leaves from everything the Knicks have been saying, they are really going to get up for this game. Melo is the star I would feel comfortable paying after Dwight Howard.
