The Lowdown: 3 Deep Dynasty Adds and My Final Thoughts Headed Into Draft Weekend

Deep Dynasty Adds

Damien Williams

There’s some belief that Daniel Thomas my be cut by the Dolphins. In my opinion, this is long overdue.

This inspired me to look at adding Damien Williams to my dynasty team. Fantasy Douche believes this RB has Arian Foster upside and some followers are already thanking him for putting Williams on their radar.

Isaiah Crowell

Isaiah Crowell finished his preseason strong on Thursday night, after carrying the ball 13 ties for 102 yards and a TD.

“He’s a big guy with great anticipation,” Wilcots said. “He’s explosive and then he can finish off the long runs by outrunning defenders to the end zone. Everything you want in a running back.”

Ben Tate is a walking injury risk and Terrance West is also unproven. Crowell could make for an interesting pick this year in dynasty leagues. Fantasy Gumshoe thinks Crowell was the 2014’s drafts Christine Michael. Rich Hribar sheds some light on how to navigate this Browns backfield.

Allen Hurns

Allen Hurns has been making some noise for the Jaguars thus far.

“He has good instincts and is really driven,” Bradley said, per The Florida Times-Union. “We saw it in OTAs — some of the quarterbacks said they really like him. They felt like this guy is a diamond in the rough. Just trust us on this. He has some talent. I think the cool thing for him was it was against the ones. He went out there and performed at that level.”

Hurns finished the preseason with 14 receptions for 232 yards1 and one TD. Hurns may even have an immediate impact on this roster with Cecil Shorts and also rookie Allen Robinson battling  hamstring injuries. Lucas Crocker evaluates the case for Hurns.

My Final Thoughts Headed Into Draft Weekend

The majority of my drafts are happening between Sunday and September 3rd. I have a few final thoughts before my draft picks start flying off the board.

I’m avoiding early-round quarterbacks to enable me to stockpile running backs and wide receivers. The earliest I am going to jump on a QB is Russell Wilson or Jay Cutler. Although Cutler’s ADP is starting to rise higher than I’d like.

I’m also targeting those other QBs listed above. Geno Smith is also a target of mine2 because he plays Oakland in week one, one of my favorite streaming targets to enter the season.

When it comes to the tight end position, they’re highly volatile. Look to pair some up-side with the safety and comfort of another guy. For example, Ladarius Green with Greg Olsen or Heath Miller. I’m also buying heavily into Jordan Reed this year.

Avoid risk early in the draft. For example- Don’t take C.J. Spiller in the fourth round when you can take Fred Jackson five to six rounds later. Here’s a list of five guys to avoid in the first five rounds. Drafts are won with your mid-to-late round picks, but they can be lost within the first few rounds. This list of 15 mid-rounders may help you out.

If you’re targeting a player and you’re not sure if you can wait another round or not to get him…. take him. Kelvin Benjamin and Ladarius Green both got sniped from me earlier this week because I thought I could wait one more round.

Don’t buy into rookie WR hype.3 Sammy Watkins is still being overdrafted, even though his ADP has dropped significantly and he’s still battling a rib injury. Still buying into Watkins? Read this article on rookie derangement. Aaron Dobson, Jarrett Boykin and DeAndre Hopkins4 are basically free right now, opt for them over Watkins.

My last and final thought is that you don’t have to follow the site’s ranks in the draft room. Some sites vary  tremendously and you can take advantage of that. Don’t take a player you’re bearish on because he appears sooner on the ranks versus a player you’re bullish about that appears a little further down the list. If you like him, take him.

I hope this quick guide helped you out. Good luck everybody!

  1. lead Jaguards WRs  (back)
  2. doesn’t have an ADP  (back)
  3. unless their name is Kelvin Benjamin…. just kidding, but seriously  (back)
  4. this can vary by what site you draft on  (back)
