Which quarterbacks make good streaming options for Week Three of the 2014 NFL season?
Streaming options this week are a lot like when my girlfriend decides to make dinner–good, not great. I can get away with saying that because she’s not a RotoViz reader. Anyway, the match-up for Carr isn’t great, but the volume of passes is going to be there against the Patriots. The Raiders run game is almost non-existent as they’ve run a league low 32 times and averaged 63 rushing yards per game, while airing it out 74 times in the last two games. Oddly enough, Carr has outscored Colin Kaepernick this year. Vegas projects the Raiders to score 16 points, which sounds about right, but I’d like to believe those points will come through the air, compared to their bleak run game. As Davis Mattek pointed out in episode 15 of RotoViz Radio, the Raiders even had Carr running some read option last week against the Texans. It’s possible his points won’t come just through the air on Sunday. If you need a Hail Mary this week, Carr could be your guy.
Geno Smith has an even more inviting matchup this week than he had last week. He’s up against a Bears defense at home, who just lost Peanut Tillman. One of my favorite tools to use at RotoViz when trying to project how a player is going perform is our GLSP App.
A median projection for 12.3 points isn’t bad since Smith comes fresh off the waiver wire. Then he’s got 17.3 projection as his ceiling. He put up 17 points last week against the Packers, so that number is definitely attainable. Smith also had a touchdown erased late in the game as the Jets called timeout directly beforehand, which was classic. Smith remains a viable streaming option this week, but you’ll also want to keep an eye on Eric Decker this week. Much like Fantasy Douche, I haven’t been streaming Smith, this year because he’s actually my QB1 on many of my teams.
Ask and you shall receive. I’ve heard many Washington fans clamoring for Kirk Cousins to have the starting job over Robert Griffin III.
Looking at the GLSP App for Cousins’ matchup with the Eagles on Sunday, he’s got a positive outlook with a median projection of 15 and a ceiling of 18.7. The Eagles have given up the eighth-most fantasy points per game to QBs this year, and five TDs in the last two games. He’s also got some of the better weapons on board compared to some of the other streaming options. For more on what Cousins can do, check out the article by James Todd.
