QB streaming advice in 1-QB and 2-QB leagues for Week 10 of the 2017 fantasy football season.
Week 9 QB Streaming Recap
Punctuated by Jameis Winston’s awkward pre-game speech, it’s fairly accurate to describe Week 9 as “interesting.” Following Winston’s speech, he reaggravated his AC joint in his throwing shoulder. The injury took him out for the second half and likely the next few weeks. Andy Dalton lost his best wide receiver to one of three on-field fights, while Winston’s replacement, Ryan Fitzpatrick, will have to face his former team without his best wide receiver due to one of those fights.
In addition to Week 9’s entertainment, my Week 9 streaming picks followed suit. Jared Goff and Tyrod Taylor took the top two spots in fantasy quarterback production, Jacoby Brissett continued to show improvement and made the top 10, while Brett Hundley — though failing to throw a touchdown — out-performed Derek Carr and Kirk Cousins.
What was most interesting about this week was that Goff took the QB1 crown while not even reaching 30 FanDuel points, as opposed to in Week 3 where two quarterbacks had over 40 points and five had over 30. In fact, the difference between Brissett at QB8 and Hundley at QB18 was a mere 1.5 FanDuel points. Again, it was an interesting week.
|Status||QB||FanDuel Points||QB Rank|
|1QB Option 1||Jared Goff||28.4||1|
|1QB Option 2||Tyrod Taylor||26.9||2|
|2QB Option 1||Jacoby Brissett||19.5||8|
|2QB Option 2||Brett Hundley||18||18|
As we move into double-digits weeks on the season, the byes are almost behind us but the injuries still linger – as do QB starter uncertainties (re: Brock Osweiler, C.J. Beathard, Tom Savage). And if you’re missing Carson Wentz (who thought we’d be saying that at the beginning of the season?) or are looking for a change, the following matchups are ones to consider.
Game Level Similarity Projections are taken from Dave Caban’s model. The Player Projection Distributions are taken from the site’s GLSP app. These are great sources to cross check for the range of likely QB outcomes.
QB STREAMING ADVICE FOR WEEK 10
1QB Option 1: Jared Goff vs. Texans
Game-Level Similarity Projection: 16.3
FanDuel Salary: $8,200
As long as he stays under 60 percent owned, Goff is going to be my streaming pick, and he should be yours too. Goff is an every week starter at this point, having proved he’s not solely matchup-dependent, with more fantasy-points-per-game (FPPG) than Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, Jameis Winston, and Ben Roethlisberger. And in this week’s matchup against Houston, who has given up the third-most fantasy points to QBs this season, expect him to sustain that level of productivity. Coming off a career high four-touchdown game against the Giants last week and leading one of the highest-scoring offenses in the NFL, Goff is a must-start if he’s still available.
1QB Option 2: Josh McCown vs. Buccaneers
Game-Level Similarity Projection: 17
FanDuel Salary: $7,400
I never thought I’d see the day, but Josh McCown has reached QB1(ish) status, proving that you can still peak at age 38. Though he’s still matchup-dependent, passing for only 140 yards against a strong Bills secondary, his stealthy running game (70 yards and three TDs on the season) makes him an intriguing streaming option on a week-by-week basis. With 16 TDs already under his belt and facing a battered Bucs defense that has given up over 2,200 passing yards and averages 25 points against, expect McCown to continue to deliver for fantasy owners. Look for him to continue his streak with a sixth straight game of multiple scores (each of the previous games included over 17 fantasy points).
2QB Option 1: Eli Manning vs. 49ers
Game-Level Similarity Projection: 16.6
FanDuel Salary: $6,700
This one hurts a little, since I wrote Eli Manning off after his Week 5 performance where he lost five starters. However, it’s hard to pass up a matchup against the 49ers, whose defense is ranked dead last in the league and has allowed at least two TD passes in each of their last four games (and one of those was with Drew Stanton). In fact, the only defense as bad as the 49ers might be the Giants themselves. Both quarterbacks should get their fair share of time with the ball.
Additionally, Manning is coming off one of his best fantasy weeks since losing his starters, though most of it came in garbage time against the Rams. In 2QB formats, Manning is a solid streamer against a team giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to the position. And with strong words from Ben McAdoo claiming they might “throw another guy in” at QB, expect Manning to come out with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder.
2QB Option 2: C.J. Beathard vs. Giants
Game-Level Similarity Projection: 18
FanDuel Salary: $6,300
I’ve been hesitant to stream Beathard in weeks past largely due to lack of weapons and pitiful offensive line. (He’s been sacked 16 times in his four weeks as the 49ers’ starter.) However, the Giants have allowed the second-most fantasy points to the QB position, including 18 TD passes. And for what it’s worth, Beathard has maintained double-digit fantasy points in each of his four starts — with a floor of 13 points. Headed into his bye week with Jimmy Garroppolo preparing to take over, this may be Beathard’s last attempt to secure his starting spot.
