Inefficient Veteran RBs are in a Whole Lot of Trouble: 2025 Rookie RB Landing Spot Preview

Anyone who is paying attention to the 2025 NFL Draft is surely aware by now of how strong of an incoming rookie running back class we have this year. A talented RB can create opportunities anywhere, but things get a little easier in a landing spot featuring backfield vacancies from the year prior. If the RB holdovers from the previous season do not present much of a threat to claim the vacated workload, even better. Just as we did with wide receivers earlier in the week, today we will be taking a look at which NFL teams represent the best landing spots for the 2025 rookie RB class based on available opportunities and the current talent on each roster.

Overall, there are 20 teams covered in this article, but only five feature both the need for a talent upgrade and enough available opportunities to classify them as premier landing spots for this year’s rookie RBs. More than half of the teams featured need to upgrade the talent level of their RB depth charts despite few personnel changes since the end of last season. This should put veteran RBs across the league on notice, as the incoming rookie class could push many ineffective holdovers out of jobs before the 2025 season even starts.
