As with any DFS slate, anything can happen. This holds true in daily fantasy basketball, just as it does in other sports. However, with the RotoViz Apps, you will have a step up on your competition.
With the NBA Game Splits App, you can see how a player fares with teammates on or off the court. You can see how someone does when they see a certain amount of minutes. You can even see how someone does against a team or player. With the NBA Pace Dashboard you have a quick place to see Vegas odds, implied team totals, adjusted tempos and more. Finally, with the NBA Shot Screener, you can find weaknesses in defenses and specifically where teams are less successful against certain positions. On top of the apps, you will have access to daily articles like this one where we break down the NBA slate and explain why we like certain players for both DraftKings and FanDuel.
I am curious, what was more exciting, the NBA trade deadline or the start of NFL free agency? Other than the DeMarcus Cousins trade, I’m leaning NFL free agency. If you are excited about your team’s moves, then celebrate by playing tonight’s eight-game NBA slate on either DraftKings or FanDuel. If you are upset (like I am) with what your favorite football team did or did not do, then play tonight’s NBA slate to help take your mind off how bad they failed!
With that, here is who I like on this slate.
Daily Fantasy Basketball Plays of the Day
If you are considering using James Harden, I have two warnings for you. First, the last time he played the Bulls the game went into overtime. His previous stats are slightly inflated because of this. Second, Jimmy Butler did not play in that game. Butler is a decent defender with a 1.99 defensive real plus-minus.
GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO VS IND – $11,100 ON FD (SG), $10,100 ON DK (PG/SF)
Since Antetokounmpo is not point guard eligible on FanDuel, I would use two mid-priced point guards in my roster construction on that site. He’s been playing well lately and will be going up against a Pacers defense that only has four players with a positive defensive real plus-minus. On top of that, Myles Turner and Thaddeus Young are the only two who are above 1.00 DRPM. Neither of them should be covering Antetokounmpo often. In the two games against the Pacers this season, he’ averaged 55 DraftKings points. That is enough for cash game value, and he also has enough upside to be used in tournaments.
RICKY RUBIO VS GS – $7,100 ON FD, 6,900 ON DK
Here is one of the mid-range guys I was talking about. I have been using Rubio often over the last few weeks. With Zach LaVine out, Rubio has been able to put up solid fantasy points. He makes for a great cash game option and has had the upside lately for tournaments. As you can see from the RotoViz Game Splits App, Rubio is averaging 15 more fantasy points with LaVine not in the game.
He has reached 35 or more DraftKings points in nine of his last 10 games too. He has not done well against the Warriors this season, but that should keep his ownership level lower and make him a better tournament option. Plus, the Warriors are 23rd in DVP against point guards the last four weeks.
Also Considered- John Wall @ SAC – $10,700 on FD, $10,000 on DK, Dennis Schroder vs. TOR – $7,100 on FD, $6,800 on DK, Cory Joseph @ ATL – $5,000 on FD, $5,300 on DK
BRADLEY BEAL @ SAC – $7,600 ON FD, $7,500 ON DK
If I have not said this yet, I am more of a cash-game player. I play 90 percent cash games and 10 percent tournaments. Beal is a great play for cash, but his price tag is a little high for him to hit value as a tournament option. For tournaments, I would look at Tony Snell for half the cost instead. If you are playing FanDuel, you could pair Beal and Snell in tournaments if you wanted to ensure someone with a higher floor. For me, Beal will be in most of my cash game lineups. The last time he faced the Kings, he put up 47 DK points. The Kings are 27th in DVP against the shooting guard position over the last four weeks too. Fire up Beal with confidence.
SETH CURRY VS BKN – $6,200 ON FD, $6,700 ON DK
I feel like I am recommending Curry every night he plays. Until either site makes him a $7,000 player, I will be slotting him in for my cash games. He is shooting the ball well and actually shooting the three better than his brother. The matchup is fantastic. The game is a bump in pace for the Mavericks, and the Nets are second to last in DVP against the shooting guard. Vegas thinks the game could be a blowout as Dallas is favored by 12, but I don’t see that being a problem. Take a look at how the Nets match up against guards in away games. Then remember that Curry’s strength is shooting the three.
Also Considered- Nicolas Batum vs. OAK – $7,200 on FD, $6,900 on DK, Avery Bradley @ DEN – $5,500 on FD, $5,400 on DK
JIMMY BUTLER VS HOU – $9,100 ON FD, $9,400 ON DK
Dwyane Wade is questionable, but it sounds like he will play. If Wade sits, then Butler is a lock for me. If Wade plays, I’m still going to have exposure. Butler has a great matchup against the Rockets. This will be a pace-up game and Houston has been bad against the small forward position lately. Over the last four weeks, Houston has averaged the fourth most points allowed to the small forward position. At his salary, I prefer Butler in cash games. I’ll have exposure to him in tournaments too if Wade sits.
KHRIS MIDDLETON VS IND – $6,800 ON FD, $6,600 ON DK
Middleton has averaged 30 minutes over his last six games. During that span, he has averaged 30.8 DK points. I like Middleton more for tournaments than I do cash games, but he is fine for both. During those six games, he had three performances over 38 fantasy points. Middleton looks to be fully healthy and playing well. He gets a solid matchup too. The Pacers are 25th in DVP against the small forward position over the last four weeks. The poor performance could be due to the fact Paul George has a defensive real plus-minus of -0.27.
Also Considered- Danilo Gallinari vs. BOS – $6,600 on FD, $6,000 on DK, Tony Snell vs. IND – $4,100 on FD, $3,800 on DK
DRAYMOND GREEN @ MIN – $8,100 ON FD, $8,000 ON DK
Green is not worth a look in tournaments. He is however a great play for cash. He has a great floor and enough upside to hit a little more than 5x value. Over the last six games, Green is averaging 41.3 DK points. On top of that, he put up 35 DK points against the Timberwolves the last time these two teams met. Minnesota gives up a decent amount of real points from under the basket. Green scores most of his points from there. With Kevin Durant sidelined, Green should see more scoring opportunities.
DIRK NOWITZKI VS BKN – $6,200 ON FD (SF), $6,100 ON DK
Nowitzki has been playing well and put up over 40 DK points in his last two games. If it was not for the matchup I would say to fade Nowitzki. His ownership will likely be too high for tournaments, but he should be fine for cash games. Brooklyn is fifth-worst against the power forward position over the last four weeks. The game will also be a pace-up game for Dallas.
Also Considered- Serge Ibaka @ ATL – $6,800 on FD, $6,300 on DK, Marvin Williams vs. ORL – $5,900 on FD, $5,600 on DK
NIKOLA JOKIC VS. BOS – $10,100 ON FD, $10,300 ON DK
Jokic has missed the last two games with an illness and is still questionable for the game against Boston. If he plays, Jokic will be in many of my lineups. He has the upside for tournaments and the floor for cash games. Over his last three games, Jokic is averaging 55 DK points. There is some risk since Jokic hasn’t played and is coming back from a sickness, but he is worth that risk. Boston is giving up an average of 51 fantasy points to the center position over the last four weeks. Boston is also 27th in rebound differential, which means Jokic should have no problem finishing with a double-double.
CODY ZELLER VS ORL – $5,100 ON FD, $5,200 ON DK
Zeller is the cheap guy I plan on using. The matchup is a great one against the Magic. Over the last four weeks, Orlando is allowing 20 rebounds to the center position. With Frank Kaminsky out, Zeller is a lock to see over 30 minutes. I will be using him in my cash lineups, but the upside is there for tournaments too. There are many ways to go at center, but I think you need to either decide to pay up here or go cheap.
Also Considered- Karl-Anthony Towns vs. GS – $10,600 on FD, $10,600 on DK, Greg Monroe vs. IND – $6,300 on FD, $5,800 on DK, Nerlens Noel vs. BKN – $6,200 on FD, $5,700 on DK, Bismack Biyombo @ CHA – $4,900 on FD, $5,500 on DK, Robin Lopez vs. HOU – $4,800 on FD, $4,500 on DK
