QB rankings and streaming advice for Week 10 of the 2018 fantasy football season.
We began Week 9 asking ourselves, who is Nick Mullens? A couple hours before kick-off of Thursday Night Football we learned that Mullens would be starting in place of the injured C.J. Beathard only to deliver a historic performance. He is the only quarterback with three touchdown passes in his first NFL debut. And it didn’t stop there. Though the undrafted free agent out of South Miss was not expected to start this year, his 151.9 passer rating was an NFL best by a quarterback in his first career start since the NFL merger in 1970. Is he the real deal? Fortunately we will get the chance to find out, as he will make his second career start in week 10 on Monday Night Football.
It seems like every week there’s a new historic mark with our Patrick Mahomes tracker, as last week he notched another consecutive 300-plus passing yards day for the Chiefs quarterback. In fact, he had 325 passing yards and three TDs before the second half had gotten underway.
In the 13 games that were played this week, eight starting quarterbacks failed to put up 13 or more fantasy points. And that list included names like Kirk Cousins, Matthew Stafford and our newly beloved Mitchell Trubisky. Despite that, we also saw final scores of 45-35, 42-28, and 37-21 — and that was with six teams on bye.
Reviewing my performance in Week 9, Ryan Fitzpatrick continued to keep his fantasy owners happy and Alex Smith’s 300-plus passing yards were a season high, but Dak Prescott delivered just a decent QB2 performance.

I have never had a more difficult time choosing streamers than this week. The options are not good and I won’t attempt to convince you otherwise. If Fitzpatrick is somehow still available, snag him, immediately. Otherwise, the below are merely band-aids for one of your quarterbacks on bye in an otherwise bleak week.

TwoQB Pick of the Week – Nick Mullens vs NY Giants
I’m aware we have a less than limited sample size here, but I did warn you options were limited. In his historic first-career game, Mullens destroyed the Oakland Raiders with 262 passing yards and three touchdowns. And while the Raiders defense isn’t necessarily a threat, we can say the same thing about Mullens Week 10 matchup against the Giants.
Only the Raiders have less sacks than the Giants, who are allowing an average 24 points per game this season. Regardless of the fact that the Giants are coming off a bye week, the 49ers haven’t played since their Thursday Night game, giving them ample time to prepare for a lackluster defense.
Will lighting strike twice for Mullens? It’s worth the low-risk, high-reward 2QB pick-up given the options and the matchup.
Favorite Streamer – Baker Mayfield vs Atlanta
Baker Mayfield has had an uphill battle in his first NFL season given the team’s struggles and the changes in the coaching staff. But Mayfield has quietly had three straight games with multiple passing touchdowns. Meanwhile, Atlanta has given up the third-most points to the quarterback position and have allowed five three-plus-TD games so far this season. Opposite the Falcons high-powered offense, Mayfield will need to rely on the passing game to stay in the game.
“Bounceback Candidate” – Josh McCown vs Buffalo
Late Wednesday, it was announced that Josh McCown would be starting for the Jets in place of the injured Sam Darnold. Though he has yet to see the field in 2018, he was one of my favorite streamers last year with over 67 percent completion rating, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions on the season. His starting role comes at an ideal time for desperate fantasy owners and is a sufficient pick-up this week, especially given the matchup. The Bills defense have given up an average of 28 points in the last three weeks and have had only three total sacks in those games. In this Week 10 matchup, McCown has potential to light up the otherwise deflated Jets offense.
