Giana Pacinelli provides QB streaming options, 2-QB plays, and overall QB rankings for Week 14 of the 2019 fantasy football season.
As quickly as the fantasy football season came upon us, it’s quickly fleeting. Some leagues are starting the playoffs this week, while others are in a critical do-or-die situation. If you’ve made it this far, and are still in contention, celebrate the small victory but realize that the real games are just beginning. Every start matters and, even if you think you have your quarterback situation figured out, you’ll want to scout the waiver wire for a potentially better start.
In Week 13, we saw starters like David Blough (DET), Devlin Hodges (PIT) and Drew Lock (DEN) actually put up decent performances. Meanwhile, Gardner Minshew replaced Nick Foles after his three opening drives ended with turnovers. Interestingly, Ryan Fitzpatrick had a monster week, putting up the third-most fantasy points for quarterbacks, and Mitchell Trubisky is thriving since his benching or “hip flexor” a couple weeks ago (at least from a fantasy perspective) with back-to-back top-15 fantasy performances (QB7 this past week).
Any damn Sunday.
Unfortunately, my week’s picks included Foles who would not finish the game and conclude with a -2 point fantasy day. Luckily, my other picks did not have the same outcome. Ryan Tannehill continued to prove he belongs in this league, with a 77% completion percentage and his third consecutive multi-touchdown outing. The Titans currently have the second highest-scoring offense in the NFL, since Tannehill took over in Week 7. Meanwhile, Andy Dalton bounced back with 243 passing yards and a touchdown leading the Bengals to their first W of the season.
Minshew has already been announced as the Week 14 starter but there are still question marks in Denver and Detroit. And if you’re struggling with keeping Carson Wentz or Daniel Jones in your starting lineup, or worried about weather in the Northeast, there are some more favorable matchups to consider.

2-QB Pick of the Week – Jacoby Brissett vs TB
Ownership (Yahoo): 38%
Ownership (ESPN): 51.7%
Jacoby Brissett has been putting up modest numbers since returning from an MCL sprain in Week 8, averaging 15.6 points a game in the last three weeks. Demonstrating a high floor with QB1 potential, he will face the Buccaneers who have a decent run defense and a depleted secondary, meaning Brissett should need to rely on his arm to put up a win.
Tampa has given up the fourth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position this season, allowing 12 touchdowns in the last five weeks. His next two weeks at New Orleans and versus Carolina carry more risk, but Brissett should carry you afloat for this week if you’re in a bind.
Also, a friendly reminder that the Colts play in a weather-controlled dome.
Favorite Streamer – Ryan Fitzpatrick at NYJ
Ownership (Yahoo): 11%
Ownership (ESPN): 5.8%
What is an NFL season without a Ryan Fitzpatrick hot streak? Fitzpatrick has two straight games of 25-plus fantasy point outings and is averaging 22.6 points per game in the last five weeks. And after cutting ties with running back Mark Walton last week and losing Kalen Ballage to an Achilles injury, the Dolphins have no other options but to throw the ball.
When Fitzpatrick faced off against the Jets earlier in the season, he put up 288 passing yards and three touchdowns. This time around, the Jets will be without star safety Jamal Adams who suffered a foot injury against the Bengals. While the Fitzmagic can only last so long, if you’re looking for some magic to get you through this week he has high upside for a quarterback available in more than 90% of fantasy leagues.
Bounceback Candidate – Ryan Tannehill at OAK
Ownership (Yahoo): 39%
Ownership (ESPN): 23.6%
I don’t normally like to make the same pick two weeks in a row, but the playoffs are not the time for a Hail Mary attempt. If Tannehill is still available in your league and you are in a bind, he is your best bet.
Tannehill is coming off his worst start since taking over the starting role in Week 7 — which still amounted to 17.6 fantasy points (and a win) — with his first game below 22 fantasy points. I expect Tannehill to rebound against a Raiders defense that has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to the quarterback position, including two 30-plus fantasy performances in the last five weeks (including Sam Darnold).
The postseason isn’t just on the line for you — but the Titans as well. It’s a bitter fight to a divisional or wild-card spot, making every game through the remainder of the regular season a must-win for Tannehill to stay in the hunt. He’s a potential multi-week starter who will keep fighting through your championship, though matchups against Houston and New Orleans are not as desirable as this week’s.
