Today we take it the next step and look at backs with limited experience yet were among the best backs in football during their debuts. RotoViz subscribers who followed Corbin Young’s advanced RB stats article last season know just how good Javonte Williams was as a rookie. No one matched his 17.6% broken tackle percentage, and he was among the league leaders in yards after contact as well.
As a potential bell cow and emerging star, Williams is expensive. With an average ADP of 22 overall, he’ll cost a late second-round pick. I’ve been mixing in some shares at that price, but it’s a costly play with Melvin Gordon returning.
Fortunately, Williams wasn’t the only novice RB who took the league by storm last year, and some of his peers are much more affordable. In fact, several of these backs are likely to appear on the 2022 Zero RB Candidates list within the next couple of weeks.
