This week’s injury update is relatively straightforward.
Kyle Rudolph had been dealing with groin pain entering Week 3’s matchup. During the game he heard something “pop,” felt increased pain, and could not finish the game. He was diagnosed with a sports hernia requiring surgical repair. He’s expected back in six weeks, but this may be a little on the optimistic side. He could be out longer, or he may not be at 100 percent for a few weeks after returning.
Roddy White missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice this Wednesday, but was feeling better. With two weeks to rest since his last game reports state that he’s expected to play week 4.
Harry Douglas injured his foot during Week 3. Following this, he was unable to walk or bear weight and was held out of Monday practice. However, reports on Monday noted that he was “moving around well in informal sessions.” X-rays and an MRI were negative, so his injury is probably a contusion (deep bruise). He practiced fully on Wednesday. So, while these injuries often take two-to-three weeks to recover from, he may well be able to play this Sunday. For more updated information, and a better read on whether or not he’ll be able to play, check Friday’s practice report.
Dennis Pitta suffered a fracture-dislocation of his right hip on July 27, 2013, undergoing surgical fixation that same night. During Week 3 he re-dislocated that same hip and has already undergone surgery. Obviously, he’s out for the rest of the year and he’s been placed on injured reserve. The question is his future in the NFL. I’ve read conflicting reports on whether or not there was a fracture associated with this dislocation. A hip expert has told me that if there was a fracture involved, this injury could well be career threatening. If it was a “simple” dislocation, meaning no fracture involved, Pitta may well play in 2015.
T.Y. Hilton injured his ankle during the first half of Week 3. The team considers this injury minor and Hilton to be “day to day.” Hilton was limited in practice Wednesday, but he’s expected to play on Sunday.
