Joe 2 Pro: Week 9 Recap and Week 10 Plays

This article is simple. I primarily run down my entire cash game thought process for the week. I won’t list plays for the sake of listing them. If I know early in the week which guy I am starting at QB, he’s the only guy I’ll mention.

I’m going to write up my whole player pool at each position. Then I will write up the one guy at each position I feel the most strongly about. Think of the first article as a rough draft. As news happens throughout the week, I’ll post an updated player pool on Friday.

Week 9 Recap

Week 9 was very kind to me as I was about make up for my disastrous Week 8. Melvin Gordon paved the way for my cash teams as he was minimally owned in cash games on DraftKings. I decided to start adding my cash lineup in here so everyone can see what my lineup construction looks like on a week-to-week basis.

(Ownership is from DraftKings $25 double-up)

Week 10 Plays

  • Cam Newton
  • Tom Brady
  • Jay Cutler

Marcus Mariota – Mariota and Cutler rank very closely for me when constructing rosters. They’re just $400 apart on DraftKings. Who I roster will likely depend on how the rest of my roster my roster pans out and I’ll just plug in whoever makes it work. If salary isn’t a factor, I’ll side with Mariota. Mariota hasn’t scored fewer than 17 DraftKings points in the last five weeks, and has topped 28 points in three of the five while throwing at least two touchdowns in every game during that span. The Packers are better against the run than the pass, so Mariota could be airing it out more than usual in this game. Even with the volume, we still want our QBs to be efficient. Passing volume doesn’t necessarily correlate with more fantasy points for QBs. On the year, Mariota is has been the league’s fourth-most efficient QB, averaging 0.55 fantasy points per dropback, but in the last five weeks, he has been the most efficient QB averaging 0.73 points per dropback.

Running Backs

David Johnson – Johnson is going to be the free square on the week, and for good reason. The 49ers defense ranks 32nd in schedule-adjusted average fantasy points allowed (aFPA) and 32nd in rush DVOA. The Cardinals are massive 13.5-point home favorites with an implied team total of 30.5 points. I don’t think anybody needs to be convinced to put Johnson into their lineups.

  • Le’Veon Bell
  • Melvin Gordon
  • Darren Sproles

Wide Receivers

  • Antonio Brown
  • Alshon Jeffery
  • Demaryius Thomas
  • Emmanuel Sanders
  • Stefon Diggs
  • Jordan Matthews
  • Rishard Matthews
  • JJ Nelson

Dontrelle Inman – Inman may be my preferred option for salary relief in Week 10 if Travis Benjamin is ruled out. Benjamin didn’t play the second half of the game against the Titans and Inman saw nine targets in return. He has quietly seen 6, 7, and 9 targets the last three weeks and topped 55+ receiving yards in that same span.

Tight Ends

If Hunter Henry plays on Sunday, Gates isn’t a top option for me anymore. I’d pivot to Lance Kendricks.

  • Jimmy Graham

Antonio Gates – Gates has led the Chargers the last four weeks with 22.5 percent of the team’s targets share, and if Benjamin and Hunter Henry were to miss, that may be boosted even further. I don’t have any qualm about rostering Inman and Gates together in cash because of the cheap price tags that come with them. The matchup doesn’t look great on paper as Miami ranks ninth in aFPA and 10th in pass DVOA against TEs. Gates also has a projected +/- of 4.8 points on Fantasy Labs, which is the second highest mark among TEs.

  • Jason Witten
  • Zach Miller
  • Lance Kendricks

  • Arizona
  • Rams
  • Jets
  • Jaguars
