Welcome to the NBA daily fantasy basketball plays of the day for March 16th. Tune in for the On The Daily podcasts throughout the week for more in-depth analysis on a game-by-game basis.
Russell Westbrook vs LAC – DK: $11,600 FD: $12,100
With Paul George currently listed as questionable, Russell Westbrook could become an even better play than he is on a nightly basis. This game should be close and competitive, and while the matchup doesn’t normally matter much for Westbrook, he should be able to take advantage of this one with no problem. If George ends up playing, having Westbrook will not hurt your lineups, but not having Westbrook will kill your lineups if George is out.
Terry Rozier @ ORL – DK: $8,000 FD: $8,200
Yes, the price for Terry Rozier is quite steep, but he’s a do-it-all type who will be forced into major minutes with the Celtics so short-handed. We’ve seen big fantasy numbers from Rozier in each of his starts so far this season, and a matchup with the depleted Magic shouldn’t change that trend. If you’re trying to find a way to save some cap space, Shane Larkin (DK: $3,800 FD: $3,900) should continue to see some good run, though I would check on his minutes limit before pulling the trigger.
Also Consider: Kyle Lowry, Goran Dragic, Tyler Johnson
D’Angelo Russell @ PHI – DK: $6,500 FD: $6,900
D’Angelo Russell still has a mid-range price point that is very attractive given the upside he can bring to the table. Since returning to his full allotment of minutes again after the injury, Russell has seen 15-plus shots on a regular basis. He’s hoisted 39 shots over his last two games alone, one a game against the 76ers where he scored 26 real points. If the Nets want to avoid getting blown out by the 76ers for the second time in less than a week, they’re going to need Russell to pick up where he left off.
Nick Young vs SAC – DK: $4,000 FD: $4,700
This is always a scary thing to do, but Nick Young is someone to consider as a value option. We saw a great example of what Young could offer in his last start. He went scoreless in the first half for 1 DKFP, only to follow up with a scorching hot second half to end the game with 27.25 DKFP. He needs to see the ball go through the hoop, and if he doesn’t then we could all end up with a giant dud in our lineups. With an increased price point, you’re looking at him as a GPP option who could get hot in a very good matchup.
Also Consider: Lou Williams, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Wayne Ellington
Jonathon Simmons vs BOS – DK: $6,100 FD: $7,000
Jonathon Simmons got hot against Milwaukee in his last game out, and while tonight’s game features a much better defense, you can still try to attack them given their list of injuries. Simmons can also take advantage of his own team situation, as injuries to others are going to keep him on the court for extended minutes. This game could end up being a sloppy mess, but we saw that turn into a highly lucrative game two days ago when Boston faced Washington.
Justise Winslow @ LAL – DK: $5,700 FD: $5,600
The Miami Heat are shorthanded at this point in this season, and they’re leaning on Justise Winslow off the bench or as a starter. He’s seeing 30 minutes a game now, and while he isn’t exactly an offensive juggernaut who can score at will, he is a do-it-all fantasy option. Winslow can fill up a stat sheet on his way to being a good value option. A matchup with the Lakers isn’t something you need to look past on a short slate like this, and the fact that Josh Richardson is listed as questionable again only makes this play that much more appealing.
Also Consider: Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Robert Covington, Corey Brewer
Draymond Green vs SAC – DK: $8,600 FD: $7,800
Draymond Green should be back and available for the Warriors tonight, just in time for a cakewalk matchup with the Kings. The Warriors are down Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, so guys like Green will be leaned on even more than we are used to seeing. Kevin Durant is currently listed as questionable as well, and while I am not expecting him to miss, Green would be a must play if he did. At a relatively affordable price point, there’s no reason to ignore him in this matchup.
Also Consider: Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, Julius Randle, The Miami Frontcourt
Joel Embiid vs BKN – DK: $9,500 FD: $10,600
This is going to be the chalk option, as the Nets have become the center matchup we all love to play nightly. These two teams got together just a few days ago, and the only thing that kept Joel Embiid from improving on his 21-8 stat line was the lopsided mess of a game. If the Nets can keep this one relatively close, Embiid should crush. Make sure you’re considering him when you can tonight.
Zaza Pachulia vs SAC – DK: $4,600 FD: $4,900
Even with Draymond Green coming back into the mix, Zaza Pachulia makes for a very interesting value option against the Kings. He’s posted back-to-back double doubles for the Warriors, and if they want to continue to win without Curry and Thompson, they’re going to need him to continue this level of play. Keep an eye out for updates on Durant and David West, as the more people who are out, the more value Pachulia holds.
Also Consider: Nikola Vucevic, Jonas Valanciunas, Brook Lopez
