Streaming Defenses: Week 7

One of the biggest mistakes novice fantasy players make is reaching too early in a draft for a team defense. This is a mistake for several reasons, but most importantly because you can stream the position, picking up a defense with a great matchup each week.

In this series, I’ll be highlighting the best defensive matchups with an emphasis on defenses that should be available in most leagues.

New York Jets

I’m starting to sound like a broken record but if you took my advice and grabbed the Jets DST, just keep riding them. Despite allowing 34 points to the Colts last week the Jets still managed to put up 10 fantasy points off of a fumble recovery and three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. The Jets are outscoring defenses like Minnesota and Jacksonville yet are still only 34 percent owned. Follow the points!

Washington and Dallas both have a similar average of six fantasy points per game. Vegas is expecting this game to have the lowest total with an over/under of only 41.5 points. Both defenses are viable streamers this week but I’m taking the projected favorites. Washington might also be a good play next week against the Giants as well, while the Cowboys will have to be dropped for their Week 8 bye.

Buffalo Bills

Speaking of the Colts, they face the Buffalo Bills this week. The Colts have a relatively high implied total of 25.5 points, but scoring didn’t prevent Andrew Luck from giving up three interceptions, including a pick six, to the Jets. The Bills have posted over 13 fantasy points in three of their six games so far — the three bad weeks were against Green Bay, The Chargers, and Baltimore.  The Bills should be streamable this week and through their Week 11 bye, so they are worth an add.
