High Staked: And … We’re Back!

NFL football is back.

Even a few months ago, that seemed iffy at best. Since 2010, I’ve watched the Thursday night opener with friends in Las Vegas, where we would spend the weekend doing various in-person FFPC drafts. Obviously, those plans were canceled months ago. The remaining question seemed to be: Would the same thing happen to the NFL season?

For now, it seems all systems are go. With no preseason, I have to say it was almost surreal to return to my Sunday morning ritual of flipping to DirecTV channel 703, having Andrew Siciliano greet me and asking me to settle in for six-plus hours of football. It seemed too … normal. Before Thursday’s Kansas City-Houston game, the only other live sporting event I’ve watched in six months was the Champions League soccer final. It hardly seemed possible that I was watching NFL football again. I can only hope it lasts for four more months.

Taking the Super out of Superflex: Draft Strategies for a Rookie QB Class Lacking Top-End Talent

Almost a year ago, I looked at FFPC superflex rookie drafts going back to 2020 and examined them with this in mind: What if the goal all along was to fade early-round QBs? Well, I was all set to do the same analysis of the 2026 class, but, in case you missed it, only two first-round QBs were selected in last weekend’s reality draft, so…...

QB or Not QB, Part 3: After All the Talk About Fading Superflex QBs, It’s Time to Walk the Walk

Over the summer, I drafted two FFPC RotoViz Triflex startup teams with partners, with the intention of fading QB and then writing about the results here — a continuation of how some of my established teams have successfully done so, as well as how I implemented the same strategy in superflex rookie drafts. So, of course, it makes total sense that the teams drew the…...

QB or Not QB, Part 2: What If We Faded Early-Round QBs in Superflex Rookie Drafts?

Monty Phan breaks down the recent history of Dynasty Superflex rookie drafts to help you optimize your QB strategy. In my previous post for RotoViz, I addressed the question of whether one truly needs two solid quarterbacks in superflex by examining my own FFPC Triflex teams, specifically the success of ones that deemphasized the position. I also promised that a follow-up would look at the…...
