The Jacksonville Jaguars are reportedly signing Christian Kirk to a four-year deal worth up to $84 million. That sounds like a lot for a player who has yet to have a 1,000-yard season, but there are a lot of reasons for fantasy gamers to be excited about this signing.
Kirk broke out in his fourth season, scoring 209.5 PPR points in 2021. Fourth-year breakouts tend not to be the most coveted fantasy assets, but Kirk’s profile is more attractive than that of a typical Year 4 breakout. He’s going into his fifth season in the league but is still only 25 years old — he will turn 26 in November. He’s also averaged double-digit PPR per game in every season of his career. In fact he was on pace to break out in Year 2, but missed three games early in the season.
Kirk has been a WR3 on average, but he has displayed a penchant for spike weeks, driven in large part by long touchdowns.
Since Kirk came into the league in 2018, he’s one of only 10 players with at least five touchdown receptions of 50 yards or more. Many other players on that list are first and second-rounders in redraft.
Indeed, Kirk has been a consistently efficient deep threat over his time in Arizona.
In his breakout 2021 season, he added the underneath efficiency to his profile.
It’s important to remember that Kirk’s rookie season featured Josh Rosen and Sam Bradford at the helm of Arizona’s offense. His sophomore season matched him with Kyler Murray’s rookie year. It wasn’t until 2020 that Kirk got solid QB play, and the mismatch of expectations and results in that campaign has covered up some of his other accomplishments.
