Only two quarterbacks scored at least 30 fantasy points in Week 4: Jared Goff and Geno Smith. Probably not incidentally, they were playing against each other. Each of them threw for at least 320 yards. Goff also tossed four touchdown passes, while Smith tallied two passing TDs and one rushing score. Goff threw an interception and was sacked once, but was otherwise fairly mistake free. Smith threw no interceptions, took no sacks, and completed over 76% of his passes despite an average throw depth of 10.7 yards.

In other words, either these quarterbacks played great, or these defenses are bad. The truth is probably some combination, but the key question is whether we can expect either factor to continue having a fantasy impact moving forward.

Were These Simply Good Matchups?

In the case of the defensive play, the answer seems straightforward. Prior to facing Smith, the Lions were the third most generous defense against opposing QBs.
