The NFL’s Most Overlooked Powerhouse: How Green Bay’s Roster-Building Masterclass Creates Explosive Fantasy Values

Kevin Szafraniec details how the Packers have gone about building one of the most complete rosters in the entire league and why the NFL and fantasy managers alike will be taking notice in 2025.

Many NFL organizations claim that they want to build through the draft, but few teams have followed through with the claim as diligently as the Green Bay Packers. Whether it be drafting quarterbacks in the first round despite already having a franchise cornerstone at the position or having players at premium positions fall to them consistently, sometimes it appears as though Green Bay is playing chess while the rest of the NFL is playing checkers.

Given the Packers’ ability to consistently hit on their draft picks, the front office has been able to focus their spending on retaining their own players rather than spending big to lure free agents to Green Bay. Additionally, having players produce on rookie contracts allows the Packers to pay up to keep players when they need to, while depth across the roster means the team can take the best available player on their board every year in the draft. Although Baltimore and Philadelphia are often credited as having the best front offices in the league, Green Bay’s brain trust is right up there with them.

Following perhaps the quietest 11-6 season of all time, the Packers are not getting much attention outside of Green Bay heading into the 2025 season. However, the team is set up to make plenty of noise in the NFC this season, as their loaded roster looks primed to dominate on both sides of the ball. With the Packers poised to become a dark horse Super Bowl contender, how should fantasy managers be taking advantage of Green Bay’s enormous upside while most people focus their attention elsewhere?

A Breakout Season Flies Under the Radar

Last season, Green Bay increased their win total by two games despite falling to third in the NFC North standings. With all of the focus affixed on the battle between Minnesota and Detroit for the best record in the NFC, the Packers were still able to sneak into the conference’s final playoff spot. The biggest growth Green Bay experienced last season was on offense, increasing their average point total by 4.5 points per game, despite Jordan Love having had a down year by most accounts.
