RotoViz Hacks: Defining the Display Variables in the RotoViz Screener

This post is long overdue, but I guess it’s better late than never. A few have asked for explanations of the variables found in the RotoViz Screener. The table below contains those definitions. Enjoy.

One note is that I do not define Success Rate below, but a play is considered a success if it yields 50 percent of the yards to go on first down, 70 percent of the yards to go on second down, or yields a new set of downs on third or fourth down.

metric Explanation
AGE The average age of the player on the plays returned by the screen. Age is calculated as the NFL season minus the player’s date of birth.
DRAFT Player’s draft position with undrafted or supplemental draft counting as 329
GMS Games a player recorded a target, pass or rushing attempt in.
HalfPPR Half Point Per Reception Fantasy Points
HT Player’s height in inches
paATTS Pass attempts
paAVGMGN Average scoring margin of the game on the player’s pass attempts
paAYA Passing Adjusted Yards/Attempt based on Pro Football Reference values which award 20 yards for a TD and -45 for an INT
paEP Passing Expected Points – based on the average Fantasy Point value of plays in similar down/distance/field position instances.
paFPOE Passing Fantasy Points Over Expectation – take the player’s actual fantasy points and subtract out the Expected Points
paFPOEPA FPOE as defined above, but on a per attempt basis
paINTRT Interception rate
paINTS Interceptions
paPCT Completion percent
paSR Passing Success Rate
paTDRT Passing TD rate
paTDS Passing touchdowns
paYA Passing Yards/Attempt

reEP Receiving Expected Points – based on the average Fantasy Point value of plays in similar down/distance/field position instances.
reFPOE Receiving Fantasy Points Over Expectation – take the player’s actual fantasy points and subtract out the Expected Points
reFPOEPA FPOE as defined above, but on a per target basis
rePCTDEEP Receiving percent deep – passes noted as being to the deep part of the field, or over 15 yards from the line of scrimmage
