This will be a quick post because there’s only a very small point to be made, but if for some reason you have any teams which haven’t drafted I think it’s fair to move Kelvin Benjamin up your board.
Kudos to the people who just drafted Benjamin as if he would step in and resume the role he had in 2014. We only have a one game sample to go off of, but that observation appears to fit with the prior Benjamin sample we had to look at. So all of the talk from the Carolina coaches about Devin Funchess emerging, or a heavy receiver rotation, or Benjamin being on a pitch count, all look like noise right now.
Benjamin had a fourth/fifth round ADP depending on format, so the potential downside from overreacting to what we saw on Thursday night is also limited. It seems pretty safe to move him up into the range with Donte Moncrief and the other receivers who have a lot of upside but also have some question marks. Even if Benjamin doesn’t see the same volume going forward that he saw in the first half last night, Carolina also isn’t going to face Denver every week. It wouldn’t be surprising if he had a couple of two touchdown weeks this year.
And if you didn’t draft Benjamin because we’ve been beating up his value all summer, then I apologize. If I had to bet right now I would put the over/under for his fantasy finish somewhere in the WR18 range. That’s just a quick take by looking at the WRs who could finish ahead of him, and then pricing in Benjamin’s TD upside even if he doesn’t see as much volume as he did last night.
