Week 10 QB Rankings, Streaming Options, and 2-QB Plays

Giana Pacinelli provides QB streaming options, 2-QB plays, and overall QB rankings for Week 10 of the 2019 fantasy football season.

Imagine telling someone before your fantasy football draft that going into Week 10 of the upcoming season, Matthew Stafford would be a top-five fantasy quarterback, Kirk Cousins would be the QB9, there are three starting quarterbacks with the last name Allen and the only undefeated quarterback in football is Jimmy Garoppolo.

And yet, here we are. Those three quarterbacks with the namesake of Allen all won in Week 9 — one of whom had his first career NFL start. That quarterback, Brandon Allen, put up 193 passing yards and two touchdowns in a win against the Browns.

Meanwhile, here are a few more late-round or undrafted fantasy quarterbacks that could have won you your week:

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA) had a 288-3-0 stat line in his first W for the Dolphins
  • Jameis Winston (TBB) put together arguably the best performance of his season with 335 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions
  • Ryan Tannehill (TEN) achieved his second 300-plus passing yard performance of the season

You more than likely did not have Brian Hoyer, but you may want to consider picking him up this week as Jacoby Brissett left Sunday’s game with what would eventually be diagnosed as an MCL sprain. Brissett is day-to-day, but in relief Hoyer managed a 168-3-1 stat line in a close loss to the Steelers. Should Hoyer get the start this week, he’ll be a streamer’s saving grace with a matchup against the Dolphins.

As for my week, Derek Carr made me look good with another near-300 passing yards day (289), two touchdowns and no turnovers while Gardner Minshew made me and everyone else on the hype train look very bad. Minshew’s 309 passing yards were negated by his two interceptions and failure to throw a touchdown, which prompted the Jags to return to Nick Foles as their starter after they return from their bye week. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold made the now one-win Miami Dolphins look the undefeated Dolphins of a lifetime ago. His 260-1-1 stat line doesn’t quite indicate the lack of awareness he showed in Miami. It seems not even an easy schedule will save Darnold or the Jets this year.

The bye-week blues are significant this week with Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, New England, Philadelphia and Washington all with the week off. Yes, that means slim pickings on the waiver wire for favorable matchups (the Brandon Allen hype train will have to wait a week).

2-QB Pick of the Week – Jimmy Garoppolo vs Seattle

Ownership (Yahoo): 67%
Ownership (ESPN): 33.6%
GLSP: 17.1

I’m reluctant to pick a quarterback coming off his best week of the season, but pickings are slim this week and if Garoppolo is still available, he’s your best option. He hasn’t been the elite quarterback we went into the season expecting, but he has a reasonably high floor — especially considering the matchup.

Seattle’s defense has been inept at stopping passing games lately, having just allowed 335 passing yards and two touchdowns to Jameis Winston and 460 passing yards to Matt Schaub. In fact, each quarterback to play Seattle in the last five weeks has had a top-12 quarterback performance.

Meanwhile, it seems the addition of Emmanuel Sanders has done wonders for Garoppolo’s passing game. It’s a small sample size, but the jump in Garoppolo’s production should show fantasy owners some signs of optimism — at least for this week.

Favorite Streamer – Ryan Tannehill vs Kansas City

Ownership (Yahoo): 18%
Ownership (ESPN): 8%
GLSP: 16.4

Alright, I give up. Still feeling the effects from the number of times I was burned by Ryan Tannehill as a Dolphin when he was a viable streaming prospect, I’ve been hesitant to use Tannehill the Titan — yet here we are. In his three starts this season, taking over for a benched Marcus Mariota, Tannehill has had three multi-touchdown outings and two 300-yard passing days. In fact, now free of Adam Gase, Tannehill currently leads the NFL in completion percentage (71.8) and is putting up a career-best passer rating of 99.7.

With Patrick Mahomes expected back in the starting role for the Chiefs, Tannehill will need to pass a lot to stay in the game. The last five quarterbacks to face Kansas City are averaging 21.79 PPR, as the Chiefs defense has given up the 11th most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

Tannehill is a favorable streamer for Week 10, though the Titans next three weeks consist of a bye week followed by matchups with Jacksonville and Indianapolis. Tannehill should be viewed as a Week 10 flyer rather than a long-term option.

Bounceback Candidate – Daniel Jones vs NY Jets

Ownership (Yahoo): 29%
Ownership (ESPN): 32.8%
GLSP: 18.2

Daniel Jones has been incredibly inconsistent since taking over the starting job for the Giants in Week 3. He has, however, shown that he is capable of putting up QB1 numbers with the right matchup.

There is no more favorable matchup these days than playing against the New York Jets. The Jets just allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw for 288 yards and three touchdowns last week and are allowing an average of 20.9 fantasy points to the quarterback position in the last five weeks.

He’s not an every-week starter for your fantasy team, but Jones has a favorable schedule through fantasy playoffs and could be a reasonable stash if needed. While he’s not a prototypical running quarterback, he has the ability to pull the ball down and get some yards on the ground.
