Omar Pierre wraps up his examination of second-year running backs by diving into four potential breakout candidates going in the double-digit rounds of drafts.
Identifying the late-round running backs who supercharge your roster is one of the more rewarding skills a drafter can develop. Instead of simply targeting the back who currently sits second on the depth chart, we want to identify profiles that possess unlocked potential with multiple paths to hitting. We don’t want to just click names because they are “one-injury away.”
Second-year backs remain excellent targets in this range. Often, the market stereotypes a player based on last year’s performance and overlooks the possibility for significant improvement during a player’s key developmental phase. In other instances, the sample size is too limited, leaving the market uncertain about that player’s true range of outcomes.
But we also want to be thorough in our analysis so we can identify red flags in a player’s profile and whether their own team is signaling concerns about their development.
In the final installment of this series, we’ll dive into the profiles of four second-year backs and determine if they are candidates for breakouts to help catapult your team to the top of the standings.
