NFL Playoff Challenge – Quarterbacks Versus the Field
There are a number of NFL Playoff Challenge contests to choose from and I hope you’re playing in at least one of them this year. It’s a great way to put a cap on your fantasy football season before fully shifting into dynasty startup draft mode and 2022 NFL Draft research.
My preferred tournament this year is the FFPC Playoff Challenge. Their tournament features a $500K jackpot and there are only 7,250 entries. It’s a draft-it-and-forget-it setup, a la best ball, but you can only select one player (or unit) from each playoff team. I’ve seen a lot of great work around the industry on fantasy projections and rankings for the 2021 NFL Playoffs using assumed games per team, including work by our own Michael Dubner. As I work through building my own squads, I used this information to rough-sort and create my personal player pool.
I like to build lineups for these contests in the following manner:
- Fill out a playoff bracket that “tells the story” of your lineup
- Select a quarterback that plays three or four games in that version of the bracket
As lineup lock approaches, I wanted to look at the specific games quarterbacks played against the playoff field. Armed with the Game Splits App and the NFL Player Stat Explorer (Game Log tab), I created an easy reference tool. You can easily see each quarterback’s previous 2021 fantasy outputs against potential NFL Playoffs opponents.
