Collegiate production is still among the most undervalued measurements for running back prospects. In large part this is because we lack a lot of good ways to measure it. Both rushing and receiving numbers depend on scheme, personnel, offensive and defensive strength, and a host of other factors. This can make many of the raw counting stats misleading.
The solution is to control for these factors as much as we can. One of our favorite ways to control for some of these elements is the backfield dominator rating (BDR). In short, BDR compares an RB’s production against the other RBs on his team. For a more detailed look at the methodology, read the introduction to the first BDR article. Note that you can find BDR and many other metrics in the Box Score Scout.
You can also find BDR in the 2026 RotoViz Rookie Guide, along with a ton of other advanced metrics, player profiles, and rookie rankings. Get your preparation started before the NFL Draft with the RotoViz Rookie Guide. Volume 2 is out now and Volume 3 will be released shortly after the draft!

There are no Philip Lindsays in this class, but a few prospects have interesting production profiles nonetheless. One of my favorite ways to get a handle on the numbers is to visualize BDR along with some closely related metrics.
