3 Defensive Streamers to Help You in Week 14

Week 13 went well for those of us streaming defenses. Though the Chargers were a disappointment, producing only three fantasy points, the Packers tied for 10th and the Colts tied for sixth. It’s hard to believe that Week 14 is upon us but let’s take a look at what the slate of games has in store.

Atlanta Falcons | @ Los Angeles Rams, -6 Favorite

At this point in the season, a handful of teams have firmly established themselves as teams that must be streamed against. The Rams are one of these teams. Opposing defenses are averaging over 10 points per game and a weekly ranking of ninth when facing Los Angeles. Seven of the team’s 12 opponents have finished in the weekly top 10 and since Week 7 all have posted seven or more fantasy points. The team is allowing nearly three sacks and six QB hits per game and is the lowest scoring team in the league. If you’re looking for a safe streaming option, the Falcons are it.

Detroit Lions | vs. Chicago Bears, -8.5 Favorite

True, the Bears put up 26 points against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing the 49ers to produce only three fantasy points. But here’s the deal; San Francisco is awful. In limping through a one win season, the San Francisco DST is averaging only three points per game and a weekly ranking of 21st. Detroit, on the other hand, has been a top 15 DST in a variety of measures averaging nearly seven points per game and a ranking of 14th. We’ve streamed the Lions a number of times, with decent success, and I expect the same this weekend. Chicago hasn’t been as disastrous with Matt Barkley under center, as I anticipated. Still, nearly half of the team’s opponents have finished in the weekly top 10, it’s offense is ranked 30th in scoring and opponents are averaging seven and a half fantasy points per game. When the teams met in Week 4, the Lions amassed nine points and a weekly ranking of 8th. As a home favorite, Detroit is one of the week’s best streaming options.

San Diego Chargers | @ Carolina Panthers, +1 Underdog

The defending NFC Champions have been a cake walk for opposing DSTs, with seven of the 12 finishing in the weekly top 10. On the season, opponents are averaging a weekly ranking of 11th and nearly nine fantasy points. Further, defenses have been slamming Cam Newton to the ground six plus times per game and recording at least two sacks. Though San Diego struggled last weekend, the team has been a solid DST throughout the 2016 season. The team ranks eighth in points per game, averaging eight. As many owners planned ahead and grabbed the teams with easy playoff matchups, the Chargers are one of Week 14’s best options.

If the Bengals are available in your league, they would make a solid add opposing the Browns. If need be, I’d also consider streaming the Jaguars against the Vikings and if forced to, I’d take a risk with 49ers versus the Jets. Good luck!
