Bracket Busting: For All The Marbles

High-stakes writers Monty Phan and John Lapinski chronicle their entry in the FFPC Super Bracket contest. The Super Bracket regular season runs for just 11 weeks, and the league is far from decided. After a solid win last week, we’re right back in the thick of it. Here are the playoff seeding rules: Seed 1) Team with Best Regular Season Record ($2,000) Seed 2) Team with Highest Point Total ($2,000) Seed 3) The remaining team with the best Regular Season record ($650) Seed 4) The remaining team with the Highest Point Total ($650) Ok, let’s break this down. There are…...

Bracket Busting: Kicking It Into High Gear

Kickers don’t matter, right up until they do. But let’s start at the beginning here. Every fantasy football team can be broken down into a functionally infinite number of decisions. Sure, the major decisions are obvious and limited, “Who do I draft here?”, “Which guy should I start this week?”, but there are a million smaller choices we make with decision-trees that stretch out to the horizon. “Who do I bid on with my FAAB dollars?”, “How much do I bid?”, “Who do I drop?” are complex decisions, especially when it comes to bid amounts. Dwarfing all these in complexity though,…...

Bracket Busting: Betting On Ourselves

What do you do when you just can’t wait for the end of the season to determine the FFPC Super Bracket winner? You get in on some side action! We were facing up against high-stakes veteran and all-around good guy Dan Williamson (@OverHypedSleepr) this week, and Dan came at us with an offer of side action through the FFPC’s on-site wagering system. Now Deshaun of the Dead came into Week 4 riding high. We had just ripped off a 165-point performance to maintain our perfect record and hold on first place, and things were looking up for our squad. But…...

Bracket Busting: Living that Zero RB Life

Your running backs suck. That’s the harsh reality Zero RB drafters often have to deal with through the first few weeks of the season. Sometimes you get lucky and those late RBs you drafted are usable right away during the season. Other times, it may take several weeks and some waiver wire churn before you have usable players to fill your two RB slots. It’s times like those that try men’s souls, when you’re watching the “late-round gem” you cleverly snagged touch the ball six times and get you 3 PPR points while the guy you’re going against has Christian…...

Dynasty Watch: The Other Guys

You already know the obvious rookie stars from Week 1. Marquise Brown and Terry McLaurin were en fuego, propelling the savvy (desperate) owners who started them Week 1 to big scores. Other high profile names have been scrutinized ad infinitum at this point, with the primetime performance by David Montgomery under the microscope and numerous analyses of Miles Sanders and the Eagles’ backfield split. There are a few rookies that had quietly impressive starts to the season that also need to be on our radar as potential trade targets or even waiver pickups in shallower formats. Diontae Johnson Three receptions…...

FFPC Best Ball Roster Construction: The Best Defense Is Lots Of Defense

In traditional redraft leagues, fantasy analysts will tell you not to even draft a defense unless the rules require it. In best ball leagues, not only do you need to draft a defense, research has shown that you probably want at least three even in shallower best ball leagues. So what about the 28-round FFPC drafts? What’s the optimal number of defenses, and when should you be drafting them? Mike Beers has brought us his suite of best ball tools where you can now use the Roster Construction Explorer to optimize your roster builds and the ADP and Exposure tool…...

How Early Is Too Early For Kicker: FFPC Best Ball Roster Construction

The kicker. Many fantasy sites have never had, or are doing away with, the kicker position, but the FFPC stands alone in the best ball community, a bulwark against the rising tide of anti-kickerism. Not only do you need to draft a kicker in FFPC best ball leagues, you need to draft multiple kickers. You thought after years of fantasy football you were finally done with drafting Adam Vinatieri? Surprise! You can’t kill Vinatieri. He’ll be kicking field goals long after we’re all in the ground feeding whatever species replaces worms in the post-apocalyptic hellscape we’re hurtling towards. Mike Beers…...

Best Ball Round Table, Part 1: Our 19 Favorite Players And The Surprising Position That Could Ruin Your Drafts

I recently asked the gang to get together for a round table discussion looking at all of the biggest questions in best ball. I wanted to dive into the actionable intel found in the FFPC, Fanball, and DRAFT dashboards, as well as the Roster Construction Explorers for each format. Joining me today are some of the more decorated best ball players in the industry. Monty Phan and John Lapinski are veterans of the FFPC wars with 2018 Bare Knuckles and Terminator titles as two of their most recent trophies. They’re joined by Mike Beers, the best ball guru himself and…...

The TE Model Predicts the Stars and Busts of the 2019 Rookie Class

Last year I billed the tight end model as a secret weapon for dynasty rookie drafts, and it didn’t disappoint. The 2018 model results successfully picked out Chris Herndon as the biggest sleeper, and predicted that Mark Andrews was the Baltimore TE to own, not first-round pick Hayden Hurst. We’re back again with the model results for the 2019 class, and it’s found three valuable late-round sleepers, as well as a pair of highly drafted TEs that look like they could be busts. Model Origins So what is the tight end model? It was created and first published here…...

3 Rookie TEs I’m Targeting in Dynasty Leagues After the NFL Draft

The 2019 NFL draft was a disappointment for three out of four offensive skill positions. Just two running backs in the first two rounds and multiple wide receivers slipped further than anyone expected. Three quarterbacks were drafted in the first round, but one of them was Daniel Jones, so does that really count? There was one position that didn’t let us down though. Tight end came out looking strong, with solid landing spots for the two top prospects and some other strong picks on Day 2. So who am I targeting after the draft? Well, you don’t need Mr…....
